Description
Arpit Gupta is hiring multiple full-time Research Scientists for ongoing research on pioneering LLM tools to understand zoning's impact on housing affordability. Working with collaborators Alex Bartik at UIUC and other researchers at NYU Stern, we're looking for candidates to work at the intersection of frontier AI and one of America's most critical policy problems. One position starts as soon as feasible, another Summer 2026.The position comes with a one-year commitment which is flexible. Relocation to New York is preferred, but hybrid work arrangement is an option for exceptional candidates.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $51,700-$61,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Qualifications
What we're looking for:
  • Strong technical ability. Programming experience in Python or R is strongly preferred.
  • Fast learners with strong conviction. AI/LLM experience is a plus, but we care more about your ability to dive in, figure things out, and drive projects forward autonomously.
  • People who care about impact. This research will directly inform policy debates affecting millions of people.
