Job description

Inside Sales Representative

Kansas City, MO | Full-Time | Onsite | $20/hour + Commission

Build a Sales Career Around Something You're Actually Passionate About

We're partnering with a leading national retailer in the music industry that's expanding its Kansas City sales organization and hiring multiple Inside Sales Representatives.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who brings together professional sales ability and genuine knowledge of music, instruments, recording, or audio gear.

You'll work in a structured inside sales environment where you'll develop your own book of business, build long-term customer relationships, and become a trusted resource customers return to as their musical needs evolve.

This isn't simply about processing transactions. It's about consultative selling, relationship development, and turning customers into long-term clients.

What You'll Do

As an Inside Sales Representative, you'll take ownership of customer relationships and individual sales performance.

You'll:

  • Build, manage, and grow your own book of business
  • Develop long-term relationships and become a trusted advisor to customers
  • Consult with customers to understand their goals and recommend the right instruments, equipment, and solutions
  • Manage inbound, outbound, and relationship-driven sales activity
  • Proactively follow up with customers and develop repeat business
  • Work toward defined sales targets, conversion goals, and performance metrics
  • Identify opportunities for upselling, cross-selling, and complete product solutions
  • Utilize CRM platforms and digital tools to manage customer relationships and opportunities
  • Maintain strong productivity across calls, follow-ups, and outbound activity
  • Participate in hands-on product and vendor training
  • Continuously develop your sales skills and product expertise

What We're Looking For

The strongest candidates combine sales discipline with real music and gear credibility.

We're looking for:

  • Approximately 2–3+ years of sales experience and/or relevant professional music-industry experience
  • Experience working toward sales goals, quotas, or measurable performance targets
  • Strong consultative selling and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence communicating extensively with customers over the phone
  • Experience with CRM systems, customer follow-up, or pipeline management
  • Strong accountability, reliability, and follow-through
  • Ability to thrive in a structured, metrics-driven sales environment
  • Genuine knowledge of musical instruments, recording equipment, pro audio, live sound, DJ equipment, or related gear
  • Comfort learning and utilizing new technology, digital tools, and AI-enabled resources

You Don't Need to Know Everything

We're not looking for someone who is an expert in every instrument or product category.

Maybe you're a guitarist who has built a career in sales. Maybe you've worked in audio production or live sound and also have a strong commercial mindset. Maybe you're a drummer, producer, bassist, DJ, recording engineer, or gear enthusiast who knows how to build relationships and sell.

What matters is that you have enough legitimate product knowledge to credibly connect with musicians, combined with the discipline and communication skills required to succeed in professional sales.

Training & Development

You'll receive extensive training designed to strengthen both your product expertise and sales capabilities.

Training includes:

  • Hands-on musical instrument and product training
  • Vendor-led product education
  • Sales and consultative selling development
  • CRM, digital tools, and technology
  • Customer relationship development
  • Ongoing coaching and performance development

You'll have the opportunity to continually expand your knowledge while building a professional sales career within the music industry.

Compensation & Employment

Base Pay: $20/hour

Additional Compensation: Commission / performance incentives

Employment: Full-Time, Direct Hire

Location: Kansas City, MO – 100% onsite

This position requires consistent onsite attendance and the ability to succeed within a structured, performance-driven sales environment.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

For the right person, this role offers something that's difficult to find: the ability to combine sales, relationship building, and music into one career.

Instead of selling a product you have no connection to, you'll spend your days talking with customers about instruments and gear you understand while building relationships that can continue for years.

If you're a salesperson who happens to be a serious musician or gear enthusiast or you're already working around music and have the sales ability to turn that expertise into customer relationships, we'd like to talk with you.
