Job description

Bloomfield Schools is seeking responsible and reliable individuals to serve as School Crossing Guards. In this important role, you will ensure the safety of students crossing streets near our schools during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. This position contributes directly to the well-being of our community and the safety of our children.
GENERAL SUMMARY
A part-time employee to work as a school crossing guard for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon ensuring that students safely cross the street at specific school crossing locations. Work is performed on days school is in session.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Safely direct and assist students and pedestrians crossing designated school routes.
  • Halt vehicular traffic as needed using standard safety equipment (i.e. hand-held "STOP" sign, vests, cones).
  • Maintain visibility and presence to ensure an orderly and safe crossing environment.
  • Communicate clearly with students, parents and motorists regarding crossing procedures.
  • Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years old
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must possess the ability to safely perform the job functions of a School Crossing Guard.
  • Must provide fingerprints and have an acceptable criminal history record.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen prior to hire.
