What is a GTM engineer?

A GTM (Go-to-Market) Engineer is a professional who bridges the gap between technical product development and commercial teams. GTM Engineers work closely with sales, marketing, and product teams to ensure new products or features are successfully launched and adopted in the market. They help translate technical capabilities into customer benefits, provide technical expertise during sales cycles, and may assist with product demonstrations, solution architecture, and customer feedback. Their goal is to accelerate product adoption and support revenue growth through technical enablement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GTM engineer?

To excel as a GTM Engineer, you need a solid background in software engineering, product management, and business acumen, often with a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, cloud services, APIs, and analytics tools is commonly required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help bridge technical and business teams effectively. Mastering these areas ensures successful product launches, customer satisfaction, and alignment between technical solutions and market needs.

What are some typical challenges a GTM engineer faces when integrating new products into existing sales and marketing workflows?

Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and maintaining open communication is key to overcoming these hurdles and ensuring successful product launches.

Job description

The Revenue Technology Specialist is AvidXchange's first dedicated role at the intersection of revenue system automation and emerging AI tooling. This is a learning-forward role built for someone early in their career who is technically curious, comfortable in SaaS tools, and eager to grow into the full scope of GTM engineering over time. You will work directly under the Senior Revenue Technology & AI Automation Manager, contributing to automation builds, system integrations, and AI agent projects with close mentorship and structured ramp. You don't need to have built production AI agents yet - but you need to be the kind of person who figures things out, documents what you learn, and ships work you're proud of.

What You'll Do:

Automation & Workflow Builds

  • Build and maintain automation workflows across the RevTech stack using Workato, Salesforce Flows, and no-code/low-code integration tools
  • Support the maintenance and optimization of existing Marketo-Salesforce data pipelines and integration logic
  • Assist in building data quality monitoring: routing gap alerts, attribution anomaly flags, and duplicate detection workflows
  • Document all custom builds, integrations, and workflow logic in a shared knowledge base

AI Agent Support & Learning

  • Assist in the build, testing, and QA of AI agents for Marketing and Sales use cases under the Manager's guidance
  • Support Conversica administration: monitor agent performance, log issues, and document optimization opportunities
  • Learn and apply prompt engineering techniques to configure and tune AI agent behaviors
  • Help maintain the AI agent governance documentation: scoping templates, QA checklists, and runbooks
  • Research and evaluate emerging AI and GTM automation tooling; summarize findings for the team

Systems & Stakeholder Support

  • Triage and work Monday.com intake tickets for automation and integration requests, with Manager oversight
  • Support Marketing Operations with technical execution of campaign builds that require workflow logic or system integration
  • Partner with the Sr. Revenue Systems Manager on Salesforce data quality projects and field audits
  • Participate in cross-functional planning meetings and document action items and technical requirements

What Success Looks Like - Year One

Platform Fluency

  • Fully ramped on AvidXchange's RevTech stack within 60 days - can independently navigate Salesforce, Workato, Marketo, and LeanData

Automation Ownership

  • At least two automation workflows built independently and running without manual intervention

AI Contribution

  • Meaningful contribution to at least one AI agent project: testing, QA, documentation, or a discrete build component

Intake SLA

  • All assigned intake tickets closed within SLA with clean documentation and stakeholder sign-off

Development Plan

  • A personal learning roadmap in place for GTM engineering skills, agreed with the RevTech & Agentic Strategy Manager, with measurable milestones

What We're Looking For:

Required

  • 0-2 years of experience in a RevOps, marketing operations, sales operations, or technical support role - OR a strong portfolio of relevant self-directed projects
  • Genuine technical curiosity: you've built something (an automation, a script, a workflow) and you can explain how it works
  • Working familiarity with at least one SaaS platform (Salesforce, HubSpot, Marketo, Zapier, or similar)
  • Comfort with no-code/low-code tools and a willingness to learn integration platforms like Workato
  • Strong written communication - you document your work clearly and without being asked
  • Self-starter mindset: you ask good questions, find answers independently, and don't wait for perfect instructions

Preferred

  • Any experience with AI tools: Claude, Co-Pilot, ChatGPT API, prompt engineering, Conversica, Clay, or similar
  • Exposure to Salesforce (even a Trailhead certification counts)
  • Familiarity with Python, JavaScript, or SQL - even at a basic scripting level
  • Background in SDR/BDR, sales ops, or demand gen with a tech-forward approach
  • A genuine interest in how AI will change the way revenue teams operate
