Growth Strategy Intern information

What types of projects can a growth strategy intern expect to work on, and how much autonomy will I have?

As a Growth Strategy Intern, you can expect to work on projects such as market research, competitor analysis, identifying new business opportunities, and helping to develop go-to-market strategies. Interns typically collaborate closely with cross-functional teams like marketing, sales, and product, gaining exposure to various business functions. While you'll receive guidance and mentorship from senior team members, you'll also be encouraged to take ownership of specific tasks and present your findings. This blend of collaboration and autonomy helps interns build strategic thinking skills and prepares them for more advanced roles in business strategy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a growth strategy intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Growth Strategy Intern, you need strong analytical skills, business acumen, and a background in business, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau, or Google Analytics and proficiency in PowerPoint for presentations are commonly required. Effective communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are key soft skills that help in collaborating cross-functionally and managing evolving priorities. These skills enable interns to contribute actionable insights and strategic recommendations that drive business growth.

About: The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) is a professional lacrosse league in North America, composed of 8 teams rostered with the best players in the world. Co-founded by lacrosse superstar Paul Rabil and his brother, serial entrepreneur and investor, Mike Rabil, the Premier Lacrosse League is backed by an investment group composed of Joe Tsai Sports, The Raine Group, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and other top investors in sports and media. The PLL is distributed through an exclusive media rights agreement with ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN+. For more information, visit www.premierlacrosseleague.com and follow on social media: Instagram (@PLL), Twitter (@PremierLacrosse), Facebook (@PremierLacrosseLeague) and YouTube (YouTube.com/PLL).
Position Overview:
The PLL is seeking a full-time paid Strategy Intern to support some of the League's most important strategic and operational priorities. This is an opportunity to get an unusually broad view into how a growing professional sports league is built - from evaluating where the League and its teams should grow, to analyzing new revenue and partnership opportunities, to supporting decisions related to the youth business and other business verticals.
The selected candidate will work closely with PLL leadership on projects that have a direct impact on the trajectory of the League. Depending on current business priorities, work could include researching and evaluating potential team markets, developing market and financial analyses, helping shape the PLL's youth growth strategy and efforts to expand participation in lacrosse, assessing broader growth and monetization opportunities, supporting city and venue-related initiatives, preparing materials for the Board of Directors, conducting competitive and industry research, and helping move strategic initiatives from idea to execution.
This is not a traditional internship experience. The PLL is a lean, entrepreneurial organization, and the person in this role will be expected to operate as a full-time member of the team. That means owning meaningful work, presenting recommendations, working across functions, and being equally willing to build the analysis behind a major strategic decision or jump into the details required to get an initiative over the finish line.
We are looking for an exceptionally driven early-career professional who is serious about building a career in sports and sees this role as an opportunity to prove what they can do. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, analytical, resourceful, low-ego, and willing to do whatever the work requires.
For an exceptional performer, this internship may lead to consideration for a full-time opportunity with the PLL following the internship period, subject to individual performance, business needs, available roles, and mutual interest.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree welcome but not required
  • Typically 1-4 years of professional experience following undergraduate study; exceptional recent graduate students with highly relevant experience will also be considered
  • Experience in management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, finance, analytics, business operations, private equity, venture capital, or another analytically rigorous environment is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure ambiguous questions and translate findings into practical recommendations
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; able to synthesize complex information for both analytical and non-analytical audiences
  • Self-starter who can operate independently, manage multiple priorities, and follow through on details
  • Strong presence and judgment when interacting with senior leaders and external stakeholders
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and fast-paced environment
  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel (proficiency in Google Slides and Google Sheets is a plus)
  • Genuine passion for pursuing a career in sports, media, live events, or consumer growth businesses
  • Background or experience in real estate, market development, public-private partnerships, or economic development is a plus

Compensation:
  • This is a full-time, paid internship (hourly)
  • $20-$22.50 per hour

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
