Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promote intellectual and educational development of participants through individual and group recreational and social activity.
2. Provide recreational activities for participants on a daily basis in the form of small groups.
3. Instruct participants in daily exercise.
4. Escort participants as needed (field trips, restrooms, activities, social and medical services, etc.).
5. Assist participants with meals and snack daily.
6 . Engage participants in outdoor activities (walks, gardening, etc)
13. Supervision of program participants at the agency and when attending outings.
14. Performs other tasks assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS:
  • Possesses creativity and good organizational skills in developing program activities.
  • Possesses ability and an interest in working with low income elderly and disabled adults.
  • Ability to appropriately instruct and assist participants in various recreational and social activities.
  • Able to communicate effectively with staff, participants, caregivers, volunteers and visitors.
  • Possesses a demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of poverty, oppression, sexism, racism, ageism and other forms of societal and individual prejudice that confront our staff, volunteers, program participants and community at-large.
  • Proven ability to work effectively, respectfully, and harmoniously with a broad range of people from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Able to engage and motivate program participants and staff to increase their self-sufficiency and work towards resolution of the challenges.
  • Able to advocate on behalf of program participants and believe that program participants have the capacity to grow and change.
  • Demonstrated philosophy and value consistent with the purpose and goals of Kingsley House, utilizing a strengths and empowerment perspective and working towards increasing the capacities of program participants and their families.
