Job description

Job Summary:
HDR is a company that values employee engagement and inclusion, and they are seeking a Business Group Manager to lead their Building Engineering Services Business Group in the Washington Area. The role involves building a high-performing design team, managing operations, and collaborating with regional and national leaders to support project delivery and drive growth.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and Grow: Build and lead a high-performing design team across multiple disciplines – Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Control Systems, Fire Protection, and BIM.
• Inspire Excellence: Foster a strong team culture focused on quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Lead with Purpose: Support company policies, mentor technical staff, and contribute to planning, proposals, and client engagement.
• Drive Impact: Support projects in multiple diverse markets. Take responsibility for program development strategies, new business prospects, technical services, quality, and production methods and standards, all within established goals and objectives of the business group, region and company
• Manage Operations: Develop, implement and maintain an effective area business group program for the Building Engineering Services team. Collaborate in preparation of annual revenue forecasts and budgets. Monitor performance of the business group. Help identify and win projects that match the expertise and developmental goals of the staff.
• Deliver Projects: Serve as a Project Manager, Program Manager, and/or Principal-In-Charge as applicable
• Collaborate Broadly: Work closely with regional and national leaders across business groups to align strategy, support marketing efforts, and drive growth.
• Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
• A minimum of 10 years experience
• Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
• Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
• Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
• Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred:
• Maintain a professional or engineering registration and have related technical experience
• Strategic thinking to balance technical leadership with business development
• Strong project management skills and a passion for delivering high-quality work
• Excellent communication and collaboration across teams and markets
