Job description

Description:

About Us

O’Donnell Metal Deck LLC is a national structural steel distributor with 20+ locations across the country, specializing in open web steel bar joist and metal deck. We’re growing rapidly and evolving our internal operations to match. As we continue to scale, we’re looking for smart, proactive people who thrive in process-driven environments and want to make a real impact.

Position Summary

This role provides direct oversight of the Atlanta yard while also serving as OMD’s national operations control point for yard execution, inventory discipline, paperwork completion, compliance follow-through, and 3PL coordination.

The Atlanta yard will have a full-time yard manager/driver responsible for daily execution. The Operations Manager will supervise and support that employee and must be capable of providing temporary yard coverage when the yard manager is on delivery, absent, or otherwise unavailable. This hands-on capability is important, but the primary focus of the role is operational oversight, follow-through, and improvement across OMD’s fulfillment network.

This is a multi-site management role with responsibility for a small, distributed group of yard employees. Most will report directly to the Operations Manager, while the supervisor at OMD's largest location will also report to this role. Because employees frequently support multiple departments, success will require strong cross-functional coordination as well as clear operational accountability.

The Operations Manager will also help handle recurring operational items that otherwise escalate to senior leadership, including OMD fleet maintenance & compliance, facility repairs, vendor coordination, employee issues, order review, safety follow-up, inventory counts, and other operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the national operations oversight lead for OMD yard operations, helping monitor operational execution and follow-through across OMD-operated yards and approved 3PL locations.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Atlanta yard through the full-time yard manager/driver, including receiving, staging, loading, deliveries, inventory control, yard organization, safety, and customer service.
  • Provide temporary hands-on coverage of the Atlanta yard when the yard manager/driver is on delivery, absent, or otherwise unavailable, including receiving material, staging orders, and loading or unloading trucks as needed.
  • Track recurring operational requirements across all sites, including inventory counts, yard task completion, receiving paperwork, shipping documentation, equipment records, facility needs, registrations, inspections, compliance filings, and vendor follow-through.
  • Work with OMD yard leads, drivers, operations employees, and 3PL partners to make sure required paperwork, inventory activity, order documentation, and site-level operating steps are completed, reviewed, and escalated when needed.
  • Provide direct or functional oversight to yard leads, drivers, and operations employees across OMD sites. Set expectations, coach employees, coordinate with other department leaders, and hold the team accountable for safety, accuracy, productivity, communication, and customer service.
  • Help hire, onboard, train, and manage yard and driver employees, while serving as a first point of escalation for day-to-day employee issues.
  • Coordinate recurring fleet, equipment, facility, compliance, and vendor needs, including maintenance, registrations, inspections, repairs, quotes, scheduling, renewals, and follow-through.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with OMD's 3PL partners, fleet and equipment vendors, landlords, repair providers, and other operating partners, serving as the primary point of contact for routine execution and issue resolution.
  • Support inventory discipline across OMD and 3PL sites by coordinating counts, investigating discrepancies, reviewing selected fulfillment issues, confirming inventory records are updated, and improving recurring yard processes.
  • Identify recurring operational issues, recommend practical improvements, communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, and travel as needed to other OMD yards, 3PL locations, vendors, or operational issue sites.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time to other OMD yards, 3PL locations, vendors, or operational issue sites as needed

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive salary and performance-based bonus
  • Full benefits: health, dental, vision
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Career growth opportunities within a growing national business
  • Supportive, team-oriented culture
Requirements:

  • Comfortable operating primarily as a multi-site manager while also stepping into hands-on yard responsibilities for temporary coverage or operational problem-solving when needed.
  • Experience supervising drivers, yard workers, warehouse employees, or similar hourly operations employees.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills, including the ability to track maintenance items, compliance tasks, employee issues, vendor needs, deadlines, and open operational items.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment, with the ability to work effectively with employees, vendors, 3PL partners, and internal teams while holding people accountable and driving issues to completion.
  • Forklift experience, CDL experience, trucking / fleet compliance experience, inventory control experience, and basic Microsoft Office proficiency preferred.
