What is the role of a group manager?

A group manager oversees a team or department within an organization, responsible for coordinating activities, setting goals, and ensuring team performance. They often handle staffing, project management, and communication between upper management and team members, requiring leadership and organizational skills.

How does a group manager typically balance strategic planning with day-to-day team management responsibilities?

Group Managers are often tasked with both setting long-term strategic goals and overseeing daily operations for their teams. This means they must allocate time for high-level planning—such as setting objectives, forecasting, and aligning with organizational leadership—while also supporting their teams through regular meetings, performance reviews, and problem-solving sessions. Successful Group Managers prioritize effective delegation, clear communication, and regular check-ins to ensure both strategy and execution are aligned. This balance requires adaptability, strong organizational skills, and the ability to shift focus between immediate needs and future planning.

To thrive as a Group Manager, you need proven leadership abilities, project management expertise, and a relevant bachelor's degree or higher. Familiarity with team collaboration tools, project management software like Asana or Microsoft Project, and often certifications such as PMP are valuable. Strong communication, conflict resolution, and motivational skills set outstanding Group Managers apart. These skills ensure effective team coordination, project delivery, and a positive organizational culture.

What does a group manager do?

Their primary duties include setting strategic goals, coordinating projects, managing budgets, and ensuring that team leaders are effectively guiding their teams. Job description

Overview

At Intuit, our technology teams are building the AI-driven platform that powers prosperity for hundreds of millions of customers worldwide. As Group Manager, TA for Tech Ecosystem, you'll lead a high-performing recruiting team responsible for attracting the engineers, data scientists, and technical leaders who bring that platform to life. You'll set the 1+ year talent strategy for senior leaders in the tech ecosystem, partner directly with senior engineering and product leaders, and shape how Intuit competes for — and wins — top technical talent in one of the most dynamic markets in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of recruiters focused on tech ecosystem hiring, setting clear goals, building a strong coaching culture, and raising the bar on team performance and craft
  • Own the 1+ year strategic talent plan for 2-4 orgs within tech ecosystem hiring, aligning recruiting priorities to Intuit's Big Bets and product roadmap in partnership with engineering and HRBP leadership
  • Build and scale Intuit's capability to hire AI/ML and AI-fluent engineering talent — developing talent strategies, market intelligence, and candidate engagement approaches tailored to this evolving talent pool
  • Use data and talent intelligence to drive fast, informed decisions — tracking funnel health, pipeline quality, and hiring velocity, and translating insights into action across your team and stakeholder groups
  • Partner cross-functionally with HRBPs, Talent Intelligence, Talent Marketing, and TA Programs to deliver a seamless, high-quality hiring experience that reflects Intuit's values and candidate-first mindset
  • Challenge the status quo by identifying opportunities to improve recruiting processes, tools, and workflows — building scalable, automated solutions that increase team efficiency and candidate quality
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to senior tech leaders, bringing external market perspective, competitive intelligence, and bold talent recommendations to the table
  • Champion a culture of inclusion and innovation within your team — creating a safe environment for feedback, risk-taking, and continuous learning

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of recruiting experience with a significant focus on technical hiring, including at least 5 years leading recruiting teams
  • Demonstrated ability to build and execute talent strategies for complex, fast-moving technical organizations — ideally with exposure to AI/ML or platform engineering talent markets
  • Deep domain expertise in technical recruiting — strong sourcing instincts, fluency in engineering job families and leveling, and experience partnering with senior engineering leaders
  • Proven track record of using data and recruiting analytics to drive decisions, improve funnel performance, and influence stakeholder conversations
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and emerging recruiting technologies to increase team productivity, improve sourcing outcomes, and stay ahead of market shifts — and the curiosity to keep exploring what's next
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills — able to craft compelling, data-backed narratives for senior audiences and drive alignment across functions
  • Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships across organizational boundaries, lead with inquiry, and mobilize diverse teams around shared outcomes
