What You Will Do
The Focused Experiments Group (M-3) in the Dynamic Experiments (M) Division is seeking a qualified Production Control Specialist 2 that will be the point of contact for M-3 inventory systems: property, chemicals, calibrated equipment, explosives, and classified items. The Inventory Specialist will maintain up-to-date inventory databases and have frequent interactions internal and external to the group to ensure thorough and accurate traceability of all inventory items within the group's facilities. Detailed record keeping is essential, and job specific training will be provided. This position is full-time, located at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and requires on-site work activities.
The successful candidate will:
  • Lead the group's LANL High Explosives Inventory Database (HEIDi) account for all HE parts.
  • Lead the group's Component Inventory Tracking and Resource Allocation System (CITRAS) account efforts.
  • Track calibration and records for the group's Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE).
  • Assist with the proper documentation for the destruction of classified parts and material inventories in CITRAS.
  • Serve as the group's precious metals custodian.
  • Lead the group's LANL Chemical Inventory (ChemDB).
  • Assist with annual property inventory and accountability.
  • Assist the group as a Designated Procurement Representative (DPR).

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience with detailed record keeping and organization, e.g. inventory, procurement, orderliness, cleanliness, inspection records, and material logs.
  • Meticulous attention on to detail, organization and prioritizing skills, ability to anticipate job requirements, and initiative to act accordingly.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and in a team environment to complete tasks, meet deadlines, and perform work to defined procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with typical business software, computer hardware, and use of computer systems. Specifically, spreadsheets, procurement systems, and inventory databases.
  • Demonstrated record of dependability, reliability, and commitment to the long-term needs of the job duties and programmatic goals of the organization.
  • Exceptional customer service, organizational skills and ability to interact with all levels of personnel, service providers, and customers.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills across all levels of staff and management.
  • Established knowledge of and experience in the areas of explosives, sensitive materials, and waste management practices.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as a Designated Procurement Representative with experience using ARIBA and using a Purchase Card.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area from an accredited institution and a minimum of 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience participating in inventory audits and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated experience working in environments with a high level of operational formality.
  • In-depth knowledge in sensitive materials management and inventory, particularly high explosives and classified parts.
  • Demonstrated experience handling hazardous materials, including appropriate qualifications (e.g., LANL HE Handler).
  • In-depth experience using and manipulating databases and electronic reporting tools such as FileMaker Pro, CITRAS, LANMAS, HEIDi, ChemDB, and SharePoint.
  • A working knowledge of DOE Standard 1212 (formerly the DOE explosives safety manual) LANL HE Handler training/certificate and LANL HE Transporter training/certificate.

Work Environment: Outdoors, in confined space, at heights, underground, working alone, working overtime or irregular schedule working off-shift/rotating schedule, in a very hot environment > 100 F, in a hot environment 90 - 100 F, in a widely ranging ambient temperatures, in a wet or humid
environment, in a dry environment, domestic travel, operation of motor vehicles. Work in a noisy environment and work near machinery with moving parts.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
