Job description

Description & Requirements
The Grossing Assistant supports the Histology and Cytology departments by performing pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens under direct supervision. The Grossing Assistant ensures proper handling, preparation, and distribution of specimens for further testing while complying with laboratory policies and regulatory requirements.
* Prepares specimens for processing according to laboratory protocols.
* Assists with staining and coverslipping procedures.
* Organizes and efficiently distributes specimens to maintain workflow.
* Under supervision, assist in cutting various tissue samples for Histology.
* Coordinates autopsy procedure with Physician Assistants and Pathologists
* May assist providers and/or technical functions with patient-facing procedures.
* Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to procedures.
* Adhere to established department policies, procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
* Accurately maintain patient identification throughout the preparation process.
* Ensures specimens are properly identified, collected, labeled and stored.
* Follows laboratory policies and procedures in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements.
* Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
* Maintain inventory and restock supplies as needed.
* Cleans and sanitizes laboratory dishes and equipment used in specimen preparation.
* This role involves performing tasks and tests with minimal supervision and routinely guides other team members.
* Participate in reviewing procedures and providing feedback.
* Perform other assigned duties.
