A Gross Anatomy job typically involves teaching, researching, or working in a laboratory setting to study the structure of the human body. Professionals in this field may be instructors for medical or healthcare students, conduct dissections, or contribute to anatomical research. They often work in universities, medical schools, or research institutions. Strong knowledge of human anatomy and experience with cadaveric study are usually required.
Individuals in Gross Anatomy roles often work in academic or medical education settings, where they assist with cadaver dissection, prepare teaching materials, and support anatomy instruction for students. Daily tasks may include maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring health and safety compliance, setting up dissection labs, and working closely with faculty and students during classes. Collaboration with other laboratory staff and educators is common, and there may be opportunities to participate in research or contribute to curriculum development. The role can be physically demanding and requires strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a respectful learning environment.
To thrive in a Gross Anatomy role, you need a solid background in human anatomy, dissection skills, and typically an advanced degree in biological sciences or a related field. Familiarity with laboratory tools, cadaver preparation techniques, and safety protocols is crucial, as is certification in laboratory safety or anatomy instruction where applicable. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly are valuable soft skills in this position. These skills are essential for ensuring accurate anatomical education, maintaining lab safety, and supporting both students and faculty in an academic or medical setting.
