Job description

Description

Greenhouse Laborers pot and ship ornamental annuals and perennials, bulbs, holiday plants, bedding plants and hanging baskets. They do physical labor under the supervision of the Managers, Team Leaders and Group Leaders.  This position plants, moves, packs, labels, and ships high quality plant products in our customers in excellent condition. This role works with other departments to produce plants for meeting customer expectations.

Requirements

Primary Duties:

  • Placing plastic containers, pots, trays and cups on the assembly line. Pressing down soil. Planting roots, bulbs, seeds, cuttings, and tissue culture by hand. Transplanting young plants into containers. Attaching UPC's, stickers, tags, and hangers by hand. Pinching, pruning with hand tools and netting plants. 
  • Moving potted plants by hand, spacing, carrying pots and trays. Bending, lifting, twisting and setting down or picking up plants from the greenhouse floor or rolling carts. 
  • Climbing ladders and lifting hanging baskets overhead or taking down hanging baskets from greenhouse ceiling to rolling carts. 
  • Sweeping, squeegee, cleaning and disinfecting the greenhouse floors, equipment & plug trays
  • Preparing and packing plants products for shipping according to company standards
  • Accurately labeling, organizing and securing with shipping wrap the shipping carts and plant products
  • Moving and spacing potted plants in the greenhouse weighting up to 50 lbs.
  • Pushing and pulling rolling shelved shipping carts weighing up to 1500 lbs
  • Operating agricultural equipment safely and effectively 
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist with Inventory management and record-keeping
  • Clean and Inspect plants products to meet customer specifications and remove damaged or diseased items. Report quality issues to Supervisor.
  • Collaborate and help other greenhouse teams and departments when directed.
  • Complete other duties as directed by a Supervisor. 


Requirements:

  • > 3 months Experience in Agriculture, Greenhouse or related field preferred
  • Lifting Requirement: 50 lbs. Must be able to complete 8 hours of the following activities: bending, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, fine manipulation, climbing ladders and overhead reaching.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Regular Attendance and Punctuality. consistently arriving to work on time as well as attention to work deadlines.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor environment, in all kinds of weather. Extreme heat, humidity, cold and rain. Works with soil, water, plants, allergens and insects.
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, lifting, carrying, reaching overhead.
  • Eye/hand coordination, typing, handling, & wrist motion continuously
  • Must have open availability during peak season. 7:00 AM- 3:30 PM Monday - Friday Regular Schedule. In the busy season, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Saturday. In the summer, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM Monday-Saturday.
  • Hours may vary, must be able to work evenings and weekends during peak season.
