Job description

JOB TITLE: Greenhouse Technician
CLASSIFICATION: Per Diem, Non-Exempt
PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT: Greenhouse
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Greenhouse Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for maintaining greenhouse plant materials and assisting with the setup and implementation of greenhouse projects. Day-to-day tasks such as watering, feeding, pruning, propagation, testing, and pest management with other duties consistent with operating a greenhouse. Attend community events to promote the greenhouse and sell plants, etc. Care for plant materials used in school and grade-level projects, including watering, fertilizing, pruning, propagation, and pest and disease management. Operate and maintain greenhouse equipment, including environmental control systems. Perform basic repairs and upkeep of the greenhouse facility equipment. Maintain records and reports as required. Ensure a safe working environment and adhere to safety protocols
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education, Training & Experience:
One (1) year of experience in greenhouse work, nursery experience, or advanced gardening (or willingness to learn)
Good organizational skills and ability to work under limited supervision
Preferred Education, Training & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
Extensive (Performed 50% of time or more): Standing; walking; Ability to work in wet environments
Occasionally: (Performed intermittently on a daily basis): Pushing/pulling; reaching; bending; squatting; reading; writing; lifting objects 25-40 lbs or heavier without the assistance of equipment and other staff. Physical dexterity to work with small hand tools and operate greenhouse equipment
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
New York State Drivers License with acceptable driving record that meets Agency Standards
Availability to work weekends when required by projects
Knowledge of horticulture and gardening principles
Understanding greenhouse operations and maintenance
Proficiency with computers as required
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, individuals the agency supports, and the public
Ability to operate, maintain, and perform basic repairs on greenhouse equipment
SALARY:
