Job description

Banyan Infrastructure is on a mission to unlock the trillions of dollars needed to finance the renewable infrastructure revolution. We are a dynamic fintech company providing a cutting-edge software solution that empowers banks, funds, and other financial institutions globally to efficiently invest in sustainable projects and achieve their net-zero targets. Join us in building the future of green finance.

The Role

We are hiring a Finance Controller to lead Banyan's accounting foundation and help build a strong finance function as the company scales. This role reports to the Head of Operations, partners closely with the CEO, and works closely with the leadership team across accounting, planning, budgeting, cash management, and operating discipline.

This is a strategic, hands-on role for someone who enjoys building structure, improving rigor, and partnering across the business. The right candidate brings strong accounting judgment, startup pragmatism, and the ambition to grow with the organization over time. While this role includes FP&A responsibilities, the center of gravity is controllership, accounting accuracy, and financial operating discipline.

What You Will Do
  • Lead Banyan's core accounting and controller functions, including monthly close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and related controls.
  • Own the integrity of the general ledger and ensure timely, accurate financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Manage day-to-day finance operations across AP, AR, payroll coordination, accruals, expense management, and cash tracking.
  • Help build and improve finance processes, policies, internal controls, and reporting discipline appropriate for a scaling company.
  • Partner with the Head of Operations, CEO, and leadership team on budgeting, forecasting, runway planning, and financial visibility.
  • Support FP&A activities, including annual planning, periodic forecasts, variance analysis, and management reporting.
  • Prepare materials and analysis to support board reporting, investor discussions, and key operating reviews.
  • Manage external partners across tax, audit, bookkeeping, and other finance-related service providers as needed.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, people, go-to-market, and product leaders to improve financial rigor and decision-making across the business.
  • Own and manage the tools and systems to support Banyan's FinOps function
  • Build toward a more mature finance function as the company grows in complexity, team size, and investor scrutiny.
What We Are Looking For
  • 5-8 years of experience in accounting, finance, controllership, or related roles.
  • Strong grounding in accounting fundamentals, with experience owning or materially contributing to close and financial reporting processes.
  • Experience in startup, high-growth, or similarly fast-moving environments where systems and processes are still being built.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and core FP&A practices.
  • Strong spreadsheet and financial modeling skills, with comfort working directly in the details.
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a high bar for accuracy, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional peers.
  • A startup mindset: pragmatic, collaborative, resourceful, and comfortable moving between strategy and execution.
  • CPA, public accounting background is strongly preferred; significant startup controllership experience may substitute.
  • SaaS / fintech / infrastructure experience is a plus
What Success Looks Like

In this role, success means building a stronger finance function, increasing confidence in Banyan's financial reporting and planning, improving operating discipline, and giving the leadership team clearer visibility into performance, cash, and business trends. This person should be equally comfortable owning the details, improving the process, and helping the company make better decisions as it scales.

Why Join Banyan

You will help shape how Banyan operates, how the finance function evolves, and how the company scales with discipline. This role will play an integral part in establishing the financial foundation to support Banyan's next fundraise milestone. This is an opportunity to take on meaningful ownership in a growing company that values collaboration, execution, and practical problem solving.

Location

This role is hybrid, based in our San Francisco office (3 days in office, 2 remote). Bay Area candidates are strongly preferred; candidates based elsewhere will be considered with the expectation of regular travel to San Francisco.

Compensation

Base salary $135,000–$155,000, commensurate with experience, plus meaningful equity.

Additional

Banyan is unable to provide H1B visa sponsorship for this position at this time.

Our benefits package is designed to allow team members to be their best selves, in and out of the workplace. In addition to top tier health plans and at work meal offerings, we prioritize your well-being and growth through professional development, parental leave, a flexible time off policy, and flexible work. Our headquarters is centrally located between Bart and Caltrain in San Francisco, CA.

Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. We'll let you in on a secret: there's no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. We believe diverse perspectives and backgrounds are critical to building great technology. Our goal is to cultivate an environment where people feel valued and respected. So, however you identify and whatever background you bring, please apply if this role would make you excited to come to work. Banyan is an equal opportunity employer.
