About USL Technology

USL Technology is a Minority and Woman-owned Business Enterprise sustainability and engineering consulting firm based in New York City. USL supports healthy, efficient, and sustainable buildings through services including LEED certification, energy modeling, energy code compliance, real-time energy management, measurement and verification, electrification and decarbonization planning, and community and stakeholder engagement.

USL’s work focuses on creating healthier buildings, reducing energy costs, lowering carbon emissions, and helping organizations comply with New York City’s green building and energy requirements.

Internship Overview

USL Technology is seeking a current university student and New York resident for a 6-week paid internship program as an Environmental Engineer: Technology Operations Intern. The intern should have experience or strong interest in CRM systems, databases, computer science, environmental engineering, sustainability, clean energy, and technology-based systems.

This role will support the organization, cleanup, maintenance, and improvement of USL’s CRM systems, including contacts, companies, partners, leads, projects, outreach, follow-ups, lists, templates, and reporting.

This internship is a strong fit for a student who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, organized, and interested in how technology systems support sustainability, engineering, and clean energy consulting work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and update CRM contact, company, partner, lead, and project records.
  • Support cleanup and organization of existing CRM data.
  • Review records for duplicates, missing fields, outdated information, and inconsistent formatting.
  • Update contact and company categories, notes, owners, next steps, and follow-up dates.
  • Support list building, tagging, segmentation, pipeline updates, and record organization.
  • Upload and organize email templates, outreach templates, follow-up templates, and internal tracking templates.
  • Help improve CRM structure, naming consistency, required fields, and data quality.
  • Maintain a weekly CRM task tracker showing completed items, pending items, issues, and items needing review.
  • Support weekly reporting on CRM progress, completed updates, data issues, and open items.
  • Assist with technology-system-related tasks connected to USL’s sustainability, engineering, clean energy, LEED, and energy-code work.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a current university student.
  • Must be a New York resident.
  • Interest or coursework in environmental engineering, engineering, sustainability, computer science, clean energy, or technology systems.
  • Experience using CRM platforms, databases, spreadsheets, or other technology-based systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to identify duplicates, missing information, and inconsistent records.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet weekly deadlines.
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week for the full 6-week internship program.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid format, both in office and at home.

Preferred Skills

  • CRM system experience.
  • Data management and database organization.
  • Spreadsheet experience.
  • Interest in LEED, energy efficiency, environmental engineering, or sustainable buildings.
  • Comfort working with digital tools and internal technology systems.

Oversight and Training

The intern will receive clear weekly tasks, deadlines, and deliverables. Work will be reviewed weekly for accuracy, consistency, duplicate records, missing fields, and alignment with USL’s CRM structure.

The intern will not be expected to create the system independently. Priorities, structure, naming conventions, required fields, quality-control expectations, and weekly assignments will be provided before work is assigned.

Example Weekly Tasks

  • Clean and update CRM contact records.
  • Organize company and partner records.
  • Build lead and outreach lists.
  • Update tags, segments, and pipeline stages.
  • Upload and organize templates.
  • Add follow-up dates and next-step notes.
  • Flag incomplete or duplicate records.
  • Track completed and pending CRM tasks.
  • Support weekly CRM progress reporting.

Compensation

This is a paid 4-week internship program at $20 per hour for 20 hours per week (possibility to extend)
