Title: Director, Greek Leadership and Campus Traditions

Job Description

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Life, the Director of Greek Leadership and Campus Traditions provides vision, leadership, and direction for both a robust and engaged fraternity & sorority life experience and a campus-wide commitment and pride in university traditions across all locations. This position supports the intellectual, personal, social, and leadership development of fraternity and sorority members and potential new members through focused commitment and a full array of programs, services, and activities centered on the four fraternal values of leadership, scholarship, service, and friendship. The Director will provide strategic long-term planning for the office and leadership development of chapters and councils.
The Director will catalog, champion, market, and embed university traditions into the student experience at all campus locations. A collaborative strategy and enthusiastic approach will create buy-in among new students, engagement across all students, and commitment from alumni. The Director is responsible for gathering tradition-keepers to coordinate efforts, intentional marketing and promotion of events and moments, and innovation to evolve traditions with changing opportunities and demands.
The Director will work with staff and both campus and community partners to ensure there are strong relationships and a shared commitment to the success of the Greek community and campus traditions. Alumni engagement is both a requirement and a strategic advantage for student learning and relationships. Active participation with Admissions, orientation and transition programs, community service programs, and Athletics will support the retention imperative and student success. The Director is responsible for the direction and determination of goals, objectives, and the means to achieve these goals by management of services, planning of budget resources, and serving on various committees. Responsibilities also include publications, reports, event planning, strategic community gatherings, assessments, presentations, and coaching. This position will also represent the University as a member of appropriate professional organizations. The Director will supervise professional staff, a graduate assistant, and student interns.

Required Qualifications

A demonstrated ability to lead and direct the operations of a mid-size fraternal community with a focus on student learning, safety, and membership growth. An understanding of the challenges and opportunities within student organization management, values-based membership and leadership, and current issues in college student development. Proven experience in effective risk management. Experience in developing, marketing, and assessing major campus programming. A commitment to the role that school spirit and campus traditions/engagement play in student success. Exceptional communication skills on both individual and strategic levels. Experience in managing collaborative networks and partnerships. Progressive experience in managing budgets and strategically planning fiscal matters. Community development competence, a collaborative approach, and a learning mindset are required.
An advanced degree in a related field or a bachelor's degree with training and experience equivalent to an advanced degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in leadership of office of similar scope. Involvement in professional higher education associations (i.e. ACPA, NASPA, AFA, NACA, etc).
A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered. Other Specifications: Proficiency preferred in software and programs: i.e. Modern Campus, Banner, eVA, Microsoft Office suite, and similar programs. Knowledge of and ability to comply with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA), Title IX, institutional rules and policies, and Commonwealth of Virginia rules and regulations. Understanding of student development and the role of student affairs in the educational process. Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with students, faculty, administrators, community members, advisors, and alumni. Proven ability to gather and utilize assessment data.
