What does a graphics software engineer intern do?

A Graphics Software Engineer Intern assists in designing, developing, and optimizing graphics-related software, such as rendering engines, drivers, or visual effects tools. They often work with technologies like DirectX, OpenGL, or Vulkan and help implement new features, fix bugs, and improve performance. Interns collaborate closely with senior engineers and may contribute to both testing and documentation. This role provides hands-on experience in computer graphics and helps interns build skills for future careers in the field.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a graphics software engineer intern?

To thrive as a Graphics Software Engineer Intern, you need a solid understanding of computer graphics principles, programming skills in languages like C++ or Python, and coursework or experience in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with graphics APIs such as OpenGL, DirectX, or Vulkan, and tools like Unity or Unreal Engine, is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, creativity, and effective communication set standout candidates apart. These skills are crucial for efficiently developing, debugging, and collaborating on visually complex software projects.

What types of projects do graphics software engineer interns typically work on, and how do they contribute to the team?

As a Graphics Software Engineer Intern, you can expect to work on projects involving the development and optimization of rendering engines, graphics APIs, or visualization tools. Interns often assist with debugging, implementing new features, and writing test code under the guidance of senior engineers. Company Description

We are seeking an experiencedย Leadย Agentic Software Engineer to build and ship features across our client applications on iOS/iPadOS, Android, or Electron/Angular. Thisย hands-on, code-intensiveย roleย focuses onย writing and shipping production codeย whileย using agentic coding tools to move quickly without compromising quality. The position centers on creative, design-focused surfaces, so hands-on experience with 2D graphics editing or rendering is essential. You will bring deep expertise in one major client platform and partner closely with Product Management and UX to turn definedย featuresย intoย shippedย experiences.ย

Job Description
  • Dedicate mostย of your timeย toย writing, reviewing, and shipping production code on your primary platform.ย
  • Use agentic coding tools as a core part of your daily workflow - AI-assisted code review, automated test generation, AI-augmented development - whileย maintainingย code quality, security, and human oversight.ย
  • Design and build features end-to-end, from technical approach through implementation, testing, and release.ย
  • Apply established architectural patterns to keep your code modular, maintainable, and testable.ย
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and UX to take defined features from spec to shipped experience, surfacing technical tradeoffs and feasibility early.ย
  • Build andย maintainย high-performance 2D graphics editing andย renderingย capabilities for creative, design-focused features.ย
  • Optimize application performance - startup time, memory usage, responsiveness, rendering, battery life, and network efficiency.ย
  • Ensure application security through encryption, secure authentication, certificate validation, and secure credential/key management.ย
  • Write andย maintainย automated tests for your features.ย
  • Drive CI/CD automation, release quality, and deployment processes for your platform (App Store, Google Play, or desktop distribution).ย
  • Ship behind feature flags with progressive rollout and kill-switches,ย validatingย new behavior with production telemetry before ramping.ย
  • Own release health through telemetry - tracking crash-free rates, performance budgets, and defect trends.ย
  • Participate in code reviews and share knowledge with other engineers on your platform.ย
  • Evaluate emerging platform, AI, and tooling technologies, and recommend adoption whereย they'dย meaningfully improve your team's work.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's orย Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, orย a relatedย field.ย
  • 8+ years of professional client/frontend software development experience, with deep, production-levelย expertiseย in one of: iOS, Android, or Electron/Angular.ย

  • Atย least a year of hands-on, pragmatic use of modern AI engineering tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.), with practical experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities where relevant (agentic patterns, evals, latency/cost/reliability tradeoffs).ย
  • Expert-levelย proficiencyย in the language matching your primary platform (Swift, Kotlin, or TypeScript).ย
  • Strongย expertiseย in the native UI framework for your platform (SwiftUI/UIKit, Jetpack Compose, or Electron/Angular).ย
  • Strong understanding of your platform's concurrency model (Swift Concurrency, Kotlin Coroutines/Flow, or modern asynchronous JavaScript/RxJS).ย
  • Experience with architectural patterns such as MVVM, Clean Architecture, MVI, or component-based architecture.ย
  • Experience consuming REST APIs.ย
  • Strong debugging, profiling, and performance optimization skills using platform-native tools (Xcode Instruments, Android Profiler, or browser/Electronย devtools).ย
  • Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, UI/end-to-end) and CI/CD pipelines.ย
  • Working knowledge of secure credential storage (Keychain, Android Keystore, or equivalent).ย
  • Experience instrumenting applications with telemetry/observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Firebase, or platform-native logging).ย
