About this Position
The Broadcast Graphics Operator & Designer is responsible for the creation, preparation, and real-time execution of on-air graphics for live and recorded broadcasts. This role blends hands-on design with technical operation, ensuring all graphics are visually compelling, editorially accurate, and executed flawlessly under live production deadlines. They will be expected to collaborate with show producers on vision, while being self-motivated and detail oriented. They will be the main operator for Chyron / Ross XPression for all broadcasts and events.

The salary range for this role is $80k-$85k.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Live Broadcast Graphics Operation - Operate Chyron and/or Ross XPression systems during live broadcasts. Trigger lower thirds, full-screens, tickers, and other real-time graphic elements accurately and on cue. Collaborate closely with producers, directors, and technical directors in a fast-paced control room environment. Monitor on-air graphics for accuracy, timing, and visual quality
Troubleshoot graphics issues in real time to maintain broadcast continuity.
Graphics Design & Template Creation - Design broadcast-ready graphics including lower thirds, bugs, full-screens, and specialty elements. Build and maintain templates within Chyron/XPression to support consistent branding and scalability. Apply network or show branding standards, typography, and animation guidelines. Ensure designs are optimized for readability, safe-area compliance, and on-air clarity.
Data Integration & Content Management - Ingest, manage, and update dynamic data feeds (e.g., names, stats, rundowns, scripts) within the graphics system. Coordinate with editorial and production teams to confirm accuracy and last-minute content changes. Maintain organized graphics libraries, playlists, and rundowns for efficient access during shows. Ensure seamless synchronization between graphics systems and production workflows.
Pre-Production Preparation & Quality Control - Prepare graphic rundowns, playlists, and templates ahead of live or taped productions. Conduct pre-show testing to confirm functionality, data accuracy, and system readiness. Verify spelling, timing, branding compliance, and editorial standards prior to air
Support rehearsals and technical run-throughs as required.
Collaboration, Documentation & Continuous Improvement - Partner with creative, editorial, and engineering teams to evolve show graphics and workflows. Document graphics processes, templates, and operational best practices. Provide feedback on system enhancements, workflow efficiencies, and design improvements. Stay current on broadcast graphics tools, updates, and emerging industry trends.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields, or a closely related discipline: Broadcast Production or Television, Graphic Design, Communications or Media Studies. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of formal broadcast graphics training and professional experience demonstrating proficiency in live graphics operation and design for television or streaming productions. or related field
  • 4-5 years of experience operating graphics systems in a live broadcast or live-to-tape production environment
  • Hands-on operation of Chyron and/or Ross XPression during live shows
  • Experience building and executing lower thirds, full-screens, tickers, bugs, and real-time graphics
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and live on-air pressure
  • Experience collaborating with producers, directors, and technical directors in a control room setting
  • In-Depth Knowledge of Chyron/Ross XPression Programs & Equipment, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator; After Effects a plus), Broadcast Standards, Experience maintaining organized graphics libraries and project files.
  • Ability to travel as needed
