Your role at GEI.
The Graphic UI/UX Designer Intern will support the design and improvement of websites, web applications, dashboards, and other digital products. This position will assist with creating user-friendly layouts, visual graphics, interface mockups, and design materials that improve the overall user experience and visual presentation of digital tools.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Support the design and improvement of websites, web applications, dashboards, and digital interfaces.
  • Create user interface layouts, wireframes, mockups, icons, images, and other visual design elements.
  • Assist with selecting fonts, colors, images, spacing, and layout styles to improve usability and visual consistency.
  • Develop graphics for product illustrations, logos, websites, presentations, and reports.
  • Create sketches, samples, and design options for website and application layouts.
  • Assist with reviewing and improving existing website and application screens for better user experience.
  • Work with project managers, developers, and technical staff to understand design needs and project requirements.
  • Prepare graphics and design files for use in web applications, presentations, and project documents.
  • Support the development of consistent visual standards for digital products.
  • Perform other related graphic design, UI/UX design, and project support tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current college student pursuing a degree in graphic design, digital media, web design, UI/UX design, computer graphics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design, web design, or user interface design principles.
  • Experience using design or image-editing software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Figma, Canva, or similar tools.
  • Ability to create clean, organized, and visually appealing layouts.
  • Strong attention to detail, including color, spacing, alignment, and formatting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new software, design tools, and project workflows.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or other UI/UX design tools.
  • Familiarity with website layout, responsive design, dashboards, or web application interfaces.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Vue.js, React, or other front-end technologies.
  • Experience creating icons, logos, infographics, presentation graphics, or marketing materials.
  • Portfolio or class projects demonstrating graphic design, UI/UX design, or web design experience.
  • Interest in supporting technical, engineering, water resources, environmental, or data dashboard projects.
