Description
The Graphics Technician will be responsible for assisting in the presentation of information in a visual that conveys the intended message to or has the desired effect on the audience. The incumbent will provide clients and co-works with production assistance on the output of printed material created by the facility or agency staff. They will coordinate with customers to translate their product requirements from idea to finished products through creation fabrication at the JECC or by going through Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Document Services to obtain a suitable finished product. Illustrating concepts for policy and strategy documents, point papers, guides, handbooks, pamphlets, articles for submission to higher headquarters or the news media, as well as laying out invitations, catalogs, brochures, and designing and constructing free-standing three-dimensional displays.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Graphics Technician must be able to perform, be familiar with, or have experience with the following:
- Adobe Creative Cloud applications to include Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Experience in using Adobe Premier Pro, After Effects or equivalent professional digital editing equipment and experience with website and social media design, including video production on Facebook Live
- Physical operation of professional digital SLR or mirrorless cameras as well as basic photographic accessories such as tripods and light stands, as well as traditional graphic design tools such as T-squares and levels as well as X-Acto knives and other precision cutting equipment used for the making of presentations, displays, and framed art
- Arrange and compose material and maintain well-organized files
- Familiarity with a wide variety of media, techniques, and experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word and PowerPoint)
- Effectively and proficiently use Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator and InDesign) applications for the production of marketing products
- Technical experience in photography and video production to include audio and pre-during, and post-production, such as digital editing and video compression for multiple platforms
- Proficient in the application of social media tools and software such as Sprinklr, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Khoros, etc., in providing analysis of social media presence; advertising through multiple social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, YouTube, WeChat, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, LinkedIn, etc.) by creating and posting articles, graphic design, photos, and videos to promote a product
- Proficient in planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communication information through visual means
Specifically:
- Printed materials
- Assist in the preparation of printed materials in support of JECC requirements, including signs, placards, posters, tri-fold brochures, banners, and other printed materials, including three-dimensional displays. In preparing printed materials, there may be some limited requirements to generate or edit copy
- Serve as the photographer/videographer for command activities and events, including occasional nights and weekends as required and coordinated beforehand with the appropriate Government POC
- Transfer and store all digital media in an organized, searchable database, as well as the ability to use this digital media in support of the creation of print or electronic media
- Develop original materials via multiple media management tools
- Assist in developing original designs, concepts or visual styles for publications, web pages, presentation materials, on-base advertisements, and other media
- Assist in development of modern and engaging multimedia content that promotes public awareness of the organization and supports the recruiting mission using appropriate virtual communication tools to reach the intended audience
- Utilize multiple social media platforms as well as social media management tools to convey information and publicize the organization's mission
- Maintaining JECC Facebook page and other social media platforms
- Assist in reestablishing and maintaining the JECC Facebook page and other social media platforms that the Commander designates as furthering command communication objectives
- Assist in the creation, development, and incorporation of visual information products (still, video, and graphic imagery) into a variety of media (i.e., web pages, social media sites, electronic newsletters/stories, and magazines) to inform various audiences and stakeholders
- Maintain and/or update all signage and other Visual Information (VI)
- Assist in the creation and/or coordination of the fabrication of and/or update of all signage and other VI throughout the JECC headquarters and JPSE spaces (except off-the-shelf signage under the responsibility of J34 and J4), including framed art and photographs and the command leader boards for the headquarters element, JPSE, and reserve elements
- When items cannot be produced in-house, coordinate with Defense Logistics Agency Document Services on the production of VI products with the government's final approval before submission
- Maintain JECC message boards
- Maintenance and updating of JECC public web
- Assist in the maintenance and updating of JECC public web site using the American Forces Public Information Management System (AFPIMS)
- Coordinate with and advises stakeholders concerning their requirements and creating content accordingly
Education
- Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to this position
- Military training in graphic design through the Defense Information School, such as the Mass Communication Foundations (MCF) Graphic Design course or the Digital Multimedia Course (DMC) is also creditable for this position
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in graphic design
- Demonstrated experience with camera and video equipment
- Communications and comprehension skills in English, both oral and written
- Possess the capability to articulate well
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
- Self-starter and good time management skills
- Ability to work individually and in a team environment supporting customers
- U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to pass background investigation
