Job description

This position description is a general summary of the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Ralston College reserves the right to add, delete, or modify the duties and responsibilities contained in this description.

POSITION SUMMARY

Ralston College, a new institution of higher education dedicated to the revival and reinvention of the traditional university, seeks a full-time Digital Content & Design Coordinator to support the Collegeโ€™s visual and digital communications.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished and versatile graphic designer with an exceptional eye for detail, exacting standards of quality, and the organizational discipline required to bring communications from conception through publication. The position calls for someone who takes genuine pride in creating elegant and beautiful graphics with precision: who notices inconsistencies, catches errors before publication, and understands that typography, image selection, grammar, formatting, and timing all contribute to the quality and integrity of an institutionโ€™s public expression.

Graphic design will remain at the heart of the position, but the role extends beyond the creation of individual assets. Working closely with the Senior Director of Strategic Initiative and Director of Marketing, the Digital Content & Design Coordinator will help coordinate, prepare, and publish content across the Collegeโ€™s website, social media channels, newsletters, and other internal and external communications. The position therefore requires both visual imagination and meticulous execution: the ability to create beautiful work while ensuring that what the College publishes is accurate, timely, carefully copy-edited, and consistently aligned with the Ralston brand.

Given the small and dynamic nature of the College, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the evolving visual identity of a growing institution and to the ways in which its intellectual and cultural life is presented to the wider world.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Support & External Relations:

The Digital Content & Design Coordinator is responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to:

DESIGN & BRANDING

  • Design compelling, highly polished materials for College lectures, concerts, symposia, admissions initiatives, donor events, and other programs across print and digital platforms.
  • Maintain a coherent and distinctive visual identity across College communications, ensuring that all materials are consistent with established brand standards.
  • Create and develop posters, invitations, advertisements, brochures, newsletters, reports, one-pagers, presentations, webpages, and other institutional materials.
  • Develop visual concepts that translate the intellectual content of the College into thoughtful and engaging design.
  • Prepare materials for professional production and coordinate printing, in collaboration with the appropriate members of the College team.
  • Design and manage production of Ralston College merchandise.

WEBSITE

Create, update, and maintain visual content across the Collegeโ€™s website using its content management system; no coding is required.

Build and format webpages, integrating copy, imagery, video, and other digital assets with careful attention to visual hierarchy and user experience.

Review webpages prior to publication to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the Collegeโ€™s editorial and visual standards.

Collaborate on new page layouts, campaigns, and design enhancements as needed.

  • Coordinate and schedule the publication of content across the Collegeโ€™s social media platforms.
  • Create visual assets for social media, including event promotions, announcements, quote cards, story graphics, reels, and recurring content series.
  • Prepare and publish approved content with meticulous attention to copy, formatting, tagging, imagery, links, and other details.
  • Help ensure that social media activity remains coordinated with the Collegeโ€™s broader communications schedule, including webpages, newsletters, podcasts, events, admissions campaigns, and institutional news.
  • Assist in maintaining a clear and coordinated digital publishing calendar.

EDITORIAL & QUALITY CONTROL

  • Proofread and copy-edit communications prior to publication, with particular attention to grammar, spelling, punctuation, names, titles, dates, links, and institutional terminology.
  • Maintain exacting standards of quality across all published materials and take responsibility for identifying and correcting errors or inconsistencies before content goes live.
  • Ensure consistency in typography, formatting, tone, visual presentation, and brand expression across platforms.
  • Maintain and apply institutional templates, brand standards, and editorial conventions.
  • Conduct final quality-control checks on digital content before publication.
  • Research and select compelling images for webpages, podcasts, social media, events, advertisements, and other institutional communications.
  • Edit, resize, crop, and optimize photography and other visual assets for print and digital applications.
  • Maintain an organized archive of photography, illustrations, logos, templates, and graphic assets.
  • Help steward and expand the Collegeโ€™s digital media library and ensure that assets are properly organized, named, stored, and readily accessible.

PROJECT COORDINATION

  • Maintain assigned projects and deadlines within the Collegeโ€™s production systems and communications calendar.
  • Work comfortably across digital workflow and asset-management platforms, including Airtable, Planable, Iconik, Google Drive, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, and related systems.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to ensure that copy, imagery, approvals, and other necessary materials are received with sufficient lead time for publication.
  • Flag missing materials, conflicting deadlines, or production concerns early enough for the team to respond effectively.
  • Help move projects efficiently from initial request through design, review, approval, and publication.

COLLABORATION

  • Participate in weekly production meetings with the Production team and in periodic planning meetings with Admissions, Development, and other departments.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the College while maintaining clear communication around deadlines, priorities, and capacity.
  • Receive and respond thoughtfully to editorial and design feedback.
  • Respond to additional communications and design requests from other departments as time allows and with supervisor approval.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 2+ years full-time experience in a professional environment.
  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree is required, preferably with demonstrable knowledge of the history of art.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating sophisticated graphic design across both digital and print media.
  • Excellent visual judgment and a highly developed understanding of typography, composition, hierarchy, image selection, and brand identity.
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Figma, or comparable design platforms.
  • Experience working with website content management systems.
  • Experience with digital workflow, publishing, project-management, and asset-management systems such as Airtable, Planable, Iconik, Google Drive, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience preparing and publishing content for social media platforms.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and exacting standards of quality.
  • Excellent proofreading and copy-editing skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce clean, accurate, error-free work.
  • Impeccable written English and a strong instinct for tone, consistency, and editorial presentation.
  • Exceptional organizational ability and the capacity to manage multiple projects, deadlines, approvals, and publishing schedules simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate needs, identify potential problems, and follow projects through to completion.
  • Open responsiveness to feedback and an ability to work collaboratively within an established visual and editorial framework.
  • Experience working within an established brand systemโ€”and the judgment to know when and how it can thoughtfully evolve.
  • An interest in education, the humanities, art, culture, or the mission of Ralston College is strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  • Much of the work of this position is completed while sitting at a desk, using a computer and phone. Requires talking, hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform these major functions.
  • Occasionally includes reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, or lifting up to 25 pounds for office equipment, supplies, and materials.
