Job description

Overview

The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor provides evaluation, treatment, and ongoing support to individuals recovering from substance use disorders through telehealth services. This role works as part of an interdisciplinary team to support positive clinical outcomes and coordinated care. The counselor delivers individual and group counseling while contributing to treatment planning and continuity of care. The position also supports discharge planning and crisis intervention while maintaining accurate documentation and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Administer screening and assessment tools and diagnose substance use disorders when within scope of licensure.
  • Provide individual and group substance use disorder counseling services and participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to evaluate, treat, and support individuals with SUD.
  • Complete accurate, timely documentation, collect and analyze service data, and assist with reports for contracts, grants, or accreditation.
  • Support continuity of care, crisis response, discharge planning, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university.

Experience

  • Experience providing SUD counseling required.
  • Experience in supervisory role preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensure or certification to practice independently as required by state in which employed.
