Granite Mountain Quarries

Little Rock, AR

Full-time

Job description

Granite Mountain Quarries is seeking an experienced heavy equipment management professional to lead the company's fleet, maintenance, and shop operations. This is a senior management position responsible for the overall performance, availability, cost, and lifecycle management of our heavy equipment and vehicle fleet, including maintenance planning, shop personnel, budgeting and financial analysis, capital equipment planning and acquisition, vendor management, regulatory compliance, CMMS administration, and fleet performance reporting.

The successful candidate will have management experience in mining, aggregates, quarrying, heavy civil construction, or a closely related heavy-equipment industry, along with a strong working knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance and repair. This position requires someone who can effectively lead mechanics and technicians; however, it is not a truck dispatch or primarily hands-on technician role. This is a management and equipment-asset leadership position familiar with managing budgets, analyzing costs and equipment performance, preparing capital plans and reports, and working closely with operations and senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety:

  • Implementing company safety policies and procedures for equipment operation and driver safety.
  • Providing training and education on safety standards and best practices.
  • Ensuring all equipment is in safe working condition and that operators are properly trained.

Financial Management:

  • Developing and managing the fleet budget.
  • Monitoring fleet expenses and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Analyzing fleet performance data and reporting to upper management

Fleet Planning and Acquisition:

  • Identifying equipment needs and developing acquisition strategies (e.g., purchase, lease).
  • Negotiating contracts with vendors for equipment, parts, and fuel.
  • Pricing and acquisition of new equipment and tools.
  • Ensuring appropriate registration, licensing, and insurance for all vehicles and equipment.
  • Capital expenditure development and budgeting reviews with senior management.

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.
  • Scheduling regular inspections and maintenance
  • Managing parts inventory and ordering supplies.
  • Ensure shop and yard are well maintained, clean and organized.

Shop Management:

  • Hiring, training, and evaluating mechanics, welders and technicians.
  • Monitoring shop staff compliance with regulations and safety standards.
  • Developing and managing shop staff schedules and work performance.
  • Implement and manage a CMMS software for equipment and fleet
  • Review repair orders for accuracy and completeness
  • Review and approve work orders
  • Determine and schedule if any outsourcing of equipment repairs/maintenance is needed.
  • Coach subordinates to improve their performance, safety and enhance their technical skills.
  • Assist in training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving conflicts.

Operational Efficiency:

  • Tracking and analyzing fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and equipment utilization.
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to optimize performance.
  • Utilizing fleet management software to track assets, maintenance, and fuel consumption.
  • Prioritizing and forecasting completion dates of repairs and disseminating information to operation management
  • Liaising with operations management to set priorities of repairs and communicate regarding repairs.
  • QC each piece of equipment repaired has been inspected for other issues using appropriate Maintenance Inspection Checklist for that equipment.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, emissions compliance.
  • Managing and maintaining required paperwork and records.

Coordination with Internal Teams:

  • Working with managers and other internal teams to align fleet operations with project requirements.
  • Communicating with various departments, including operations, purchasing, accounting, and IT.
  • Meet with Management Team for departmental overviews of goals and objectives for the week.

Job Requirements:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in heavy equipment fleet, maintenance, or equipment operations within mining, aggregates, quarrying, heavy civil construction, or a related industry.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated management experience leading mechanics, technicians, shop personnel, or a heavy-equipment maintenance organization.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for departmental budgets, maintenance cost control, equipment replacement decisions, capital expenditure planning, and management reporting.
  • Experience implementing or managing CMMS/fleet-management systems, preventative maintenance programs, work orders, equipment histories, utilization data, and maintenance KPIs.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel-powered off-road equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; sufficient technical knowledge to evaluate repairs, establish priorities, challenge recommendations, and manage technical personnel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, financial, written communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with operations, accounting, purchasing, vendors, and senior management.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred but not required
