Position Summary: The Grain Mill Operator is responsible for the efficient and accurate operation of grain milling equipment used in processing sunflower seeds and other specialty grains. This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining milling machinery, monitoring production quality, and ensuring that processes adhere to safety and quality standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Equipment Operation:
    • Operate and monitor grain milling equipment, including grinders, mills, and separators, to process sunflower seeds and other specialty grains.
    • Adjust machine settings, such as grind size and speed, based on product specifications and production requirements.
    • Oversee and operate grain cleaning equipment such as air classifiers, screens, and aspirators to remove impurities, foreign materials, and damaged grains before milling.
    • Ensure grains are properly cleaned and sorted to meet quality and safety standards.
    • Perform routine checks and calibrations to ensure optimal performance and consistency.
  2. Production Monitoring:
    • Oversee the milling process, ensuring that production goals and quality standards are met.
    • Monitor feed rates, output, and product consistency to ensure compliance with specifications.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment issues or malfunctions to minimize downtime.
  3. Maintenance and Cleaning:
    • Perform regular maintenance on milling equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting machinery.
    • Follow a preventive maintenance schedule to prevent equipment failures and extend machinery lifespan.
    • Ensure that work areas and equipment are clean and well-maintained, adhering to sanitation and safety guidelines.
  4. Quality Control:
    • Conduct regular quality checks on processed grains to ensure they meet product specifications and quality standards.
    • Document and report any deviations or quality issues to the Production Supervisor and take corrective actions as needed.
    • Ensure proper handling and storage of processed grains to prevent contamination or spoilage.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Adhere to company policies and regulatory requirements related to food safety, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
    • Report any safety hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions immediately to the Production Supervisor.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of milling operations, including production data, maintenance activities, and quality control checks.
    • Complete and submit production reports and logs in a timely manner.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other production team members to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the milling process.
    • Communicate effectively with the Production Supervisor and other departments to coordinate activities and address any issues.


Qualifications:

  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience operating milling equipment or in a similar production role in a grain or food processing environment is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency or willingness to learn operating and troubleshooting milling machinery.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to adhere to quality standards.
    • Basic mathematical skills for monitoring production metrics and making adjustments.
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to lift and move heavy materials as required.
    • Capability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods and handling various machinery.
    • Willingness to work flexible hours, including potential overtime or weekend shifts.
