What you will be doing!

• Performing daily routine radiation and contamination surveys of work areas.
• Establishing barriers and posting signage as required based on survey results.
• Identifying radiological hazards that may lead to the spread of contamination or affect employees' health and safety.
• Providing job oversight from a radiological aspect and providing radiological guidance and advice to workers.
• Discussing Radiation Protection issues with staff in the work area and presenting recommendations assertively and diplomatically.
• Initiating and establishing any additional desirable control measures beyond those normally established.
• Exercising judgment in radiological input and advice.
• Recognizing the importance of a strong reporting culture and understanding the reporting chain for the respective work area.
• Participating in investigations into unexpected conditions. Offering advice, guidance, and knowledge to determine required actions to mitigate unexpected conditions.
• Providing radiological advice and guidance to other Radiation Protection Staff and workers.
• Assisting with training of Group 1 and Group 2 Radiation Surveyors.
• Assisting Group 2 Radiation Surveyors with routine work and duties as necessary.
• Completing all required training and maintaining personal training requirements.
• Utilizing Radiation Protection documents to support decisions and guidance in the work area.
• Maintaining daily radiological logs that are thorough and accurate.
• Performing regular compliance surveys and entering survey data into the appropriate software.
• Determining appropriate Personal Protective Equipment requirements, job time lengths, and ALARA controls using information available.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.
  

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education; OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma; OR Equivalent, and normally has more than 3 years of pertinent experience; OR the equivalent in experience, additional education, and/or training.
  • Successfully complete our online aptitude assessment AND a proctored, internally administered math test.
• Experience
  • Experience in the nuclear industry is preferred.
  • Supervisory skills and experience considered an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all instruments used in radiation work and of all radiation protection procedures.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated high sense of individual responsibility.
  • Ability to improvise and to deal adequately with rapidly changing conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to be tactful and diplomatic, to work effectively with employees of other branches, and to present recommendations in a clear and effective manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to influence and/or educate various work groups.
  • Ability to adapt to new work with regard to location or tasks.
  • Demonstrated self-motivated worker who is able to work independently when required.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
    

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
• This position is part of the SPEA Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the SPEA Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you'll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
• Work at heights and/or in confined spaces in an industrial setting.
• In hot/cold temperatures and inclement weather.
• Shift or irregular hours.
• Prolonged standing, sitting, kneeling, ladder climbing, and/or wearing respiratory protection.
