Be registered full-time for the respective semester - nine (9) semester credit hours during the fall semester, nine (9) semester credit hours during the spring semester, or three (3) semester credit hours during the summer session or be registered in the required number of semester credit hours to fulfill the only remaining requirements of the degree plan.

UTRGV's Writing Center is looking for a highly motivated graduate student to provide support and assistance. There are positions available on both the Edinburg and Brownsville campus.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Responsibilities:
  • Work with and supervise Writing Center Staff in the organization, coordination, scheduling, and confirmation of tutoring sessions and meetings.
  • Assist with basic administrative functions of an office: logging students in and out at front desk, data entry, scanning, copying, running errands, greeting visitors, answering phones and distributing messages, monitoring and responding to departmental emails, and assisting with a wide variety of other general office duties.
  • Provide information to students, faculty, staff, and the general public regarding department services, policies, and procedures.
  • Pay close attention to detail in the organization, tracking, and reporting of assigned projects and ongoing work tasks.
  • Support Writing Center Consultants in their professional development as peer tutors and with their feedback giving skills.
  • Participate in and/or lead new/ tutor training's, as needed.
  • Hold tutoring sessions with students, when necessary.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze graduate student attendance data.
  • Research for, prepare, and conduct presentations and workshops, as requested.
  • Open and close the Writing Center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be currently admitted to the Graduate School.
  • Be in good academic standing.
  • Be registered full-time for the respective semester (nine semester credit hours during the fall semester, nine semester credit hours during spring semester, six semester credit hours during the summer session(s)), or in the required number of semester credit hours to fulfill the only remaining requirements on the degree plan.

  • Be currently enrolled in a graduate program at UTRGV.
  • Possess effective communication, verbal, writing, and editing skills.
  • Possess strong attention to detail and meticulous data entry skills.
  • Possess excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Be able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Possess superior interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively with others.
  • Be flexible to work a pre-determined schedule between the hours of operation of the Writing Center (Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; Friday 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM) and other pre-scheduled events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Possess bilingual communication skills.
  • Possess experience with communication apps such as Zoom, Skype, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Possess knowledge of standard office equipment and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  • Possess knowledge of departmental procedures.
