Job description

JOB SUMMARYThe Graduate Engineer will prepare the design of new public capital development projects. The job assignment includes, but is not limited to assistance in planning, organizing, directing, and participating in the work of the Capital Projects Division including survey, design, drafting, and construction inspection. Work also includes assisting the Project Engineer in administrative and technical responsibilities for all in-house and consultant design/construction projects and studies. Supervision is exercised by employees appointed by the Project Engineer of this division. QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:Graduated with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.Registered as an Engineering-In-Training in the State of Texas within 24-months of employment preferred.Special Requirements:Possession of a valid class "C" Texas driver's license or higher.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge to perform all calculations for design, knowledge of hydrology and hydraulic models, utilizing specifications and setting standards.Ability to sit for long periods of time and prepare engineering plans.Computer experience utilizing civil engineering programs for the design of water, sewer, storm sewer, drainage channels, streets, parks and other public works projects. Must have one-year experience in design and drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar CAD programs.Must be able to go to the job site to participate in surveys, field investigations, field observations, and walk over construction sites for observation and collection of data.Must be able to work with other subordinates to accomplish the project management goal of surveying, designing, planning, and specification planning.Must be able to participate, foster, and encourage all members of the division to work as members of a team.Must be able to travel locally most of the time; some overnight trip for training. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to make effective representations to various groups and assemblies.Preference will be given to the candidate with knowledge of WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS or other similar computer models.Experience with Microsoft 365, plotters, preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is light and requires exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, talking, and walking.BENEFITSThe City of Conroe offers great benefits such as medical, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plan, employee assistance program, paid time off and free membership at the City's pool and recreation center facilities.
