The Graduate Assistant (GA) position for the Office of Student Engagement and Leadershipโs primary function is to help contribute to a robust student life experience at Avila University by assisting in the engagement and development of students on campus. This Graduate Assistant will gain experience in assessment, presenting, advising, and event planning for campus-wide programming.
- Assists with the planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating student life events, leadership development programming, educational programming, and special campus celebrations.
- Assist with Registered Student Organization processes, needs, and platforms.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of servicerelated events and platforms.
- Support the Campus Activities Board (CAB), which primarily plans student events on campus.
- Attend the regular Campus Activities Board (CAB) and advise the student leadership OR support the Student Government Association through advisement and mentorship.
- Assists with planning, promoting, executing, and evaluating the following: Week of Welcome events (fall and spring), Homecoming Week, Stress Relief Weeks (fall & spring), and Spring Fling Week.
- Assist with student surveying to ensure Student Engagement and Leadership is informed on studentsโ needs and wants.
- Assist with creation and delivery of Student Engagement and Leadership presentations related to our work, how to get involved, and updates/announcements/opportunities.
- Assists with planning, promoting, executing, and evaluating appreciation events (Resident Assistant appreciation, commuter student appreciation, etc.)
- Maintain and update bulletin boards used for Avila University event postings.
- Assist with posting and maintenance of the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership social media platforms and promotional information.
- General maintenance of the Marian Center Eaglesโ Nest.
- Assist in daily operation of Student Engagement and Leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement and Leadership
Qualifications:- Must be admitted and enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University. International students are not eligible for graduate assistantships.
- The successful candidate for this position will possess a bachelor's degree and must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA, a commitment to student development, higher education, creativity, vision, passion, and compassion are imperative.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to student development, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Proficiency in using relevant technology and software for managing student services and data.
- Project assignment will be consistent with needs, interests and expertise. The GA is expected to work the appropriate number of hours based on the allotted hours stated in the Graduate Assistant policy. The term of this position is based on the availability of the successful candidate but shall not exceed two full academic years.
