Description
Copeland (formerly Emerson) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer (or Senior Mechanical Engineer, depending on qualifications and experience) to join our Residential Air Conditioning Group in Sidney, OH.
In this role, you will play a key part in New Product Development (NPD). Your responsibilities will include developing innovative design concepts to meet customer and market requirements, creating 3D models and 2D drawings, and performing advanced analyses using common and Copeland-developed methodologies.
At the Senior Mechanical Engineer level, you will additionally lead NPD projects, guide project teams, and play a critical role in advancing next-generation design technologies and continuous improvement initiatives, while helping to strengthen our world-class design team.
We are looking for candidates with exceptional technical and analytical skills, strong collaboration and communication abilities, and the capability to work both independently and in leadership roles.
Mechanical Engineer
  • Translate marketing and customer requirements into innovative design concepts
  • Apply engineering principles and mechanical sciences to perform calculations and define design parameters
  • Develop precise 3D part and assembly models using NX (or equivalent CAD software)
  • Create accurate 2D product drawings with proper tolerances, GD&T, and surface finish specifications in compliance with ASME and other applicable standards
  • Coordinate design activities and maintain effective communication with cross-functional stakeholders, including Procurement, Project Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Reliability, Quality, suppliers, and plant teams

Additional for Senior Mechanical Engineer
  • Manage and lead NPD Design projects by defining scopes, forming teams, managing schedules, and ensuring timely delivery of competitive products
  • Oversee the NPD design process in alignment with Copeland's standards and policies
  • Support the advancement of next-generation design tools, processes, and technologies

Required education, experiences & skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
    • Mechanical Engineer: Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
  • Senior Mechanical Engineer: Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience
  • Proficiency in CAD software (NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a leadership role
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States (sponsorship not available)

Preferred education, experiences & skills:
  • Master's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of design engineering experience
  • Strong background in mechanical systems, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
  • Experience within the HVAC industry
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations.
