Job Description:
General Summary:
Design and engineer lighting, power, low voltage, and associated control systems for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial, educational, governmental and healthcare structures in conformance to client requirements and applicable codes. Provide the engineering to develop the construction documents for the installation, interconnection, and control of electrical, architectural and mechanical components.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Possess / demonstrate the engineering knowledge and understanding to design and analyze electrical systems for the installation, interconnection, and control of electrical, architectural and mechanical components.
  • Using applicable codes and standards, design and engineer lighting and power distribution systems, low voltage systems (fire alarm systems, telecommunications, data networks, lighting control systems, power monitoring systems etc), including sizing of equipment, etc.
  • Manage or lead a project team.
  • Review and/or establish project scope, electrical budget, design approach, and applicable constraints with the Project Manager or client as appropriate.
  • Possess / demonstrate the engineering knowledge and understanding to design or analyze engineered equipment, i.e., substation mechanical equipment & systems integration.
  • Possess / demonstrate full understanding, application, and interpretation of the NEC and the other NFPA codes and standards as they apply to the electrical design.
  • Adhere to project quality, budget, and schedule.
  • Prepare feasibility studies and schematic design packages of lighting, power systems, etc.
  • Perform production and quality monitoring of construction documents per company standards individually and/or when presenting mark-ups to junior design staff.
  • Communicate and work with all other disciplines to produce coordinated construction documents.
  • Develop and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Conduct field measuring and checking at the project site.
  • Maintain organized project file containing project calculations, schedules, correspondence, appropriate reference materials, etc.
  • Edit or draft project specifications.
  • Review project submittals (shop drawings) for conformance with contract documents; specify action required for conformance.
  • Respond to RFIs.
  • Develop accurate project cost estimates.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Employment Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer's License is required
  • LEED accredited professional qualification preferred

Experience
  • 12+ years of related experience in design and engineering of power distribution/lighting systems
  • Experience with short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination and arc flash hazard analysis

Additional Skills
  • Knowledge and application skills for design of facilities power and lighting systems; design team leadership.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
  • Proficiency short-circuit analysis, protective device coordination and arc flash hazard software (SKM, ETAP or EasyPower)
  • Bluebeam
  • BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
  • Engineering software for lighting design, AGI32 or equal
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong attention to detail
