Graduate Nurse Position
Rivers Health is seeking graduate nurses to join our team to perform the essential duties below:
Works under the general supervision of the registered nurse rendering nursing care including medications and treatments to patients in a timely manner.
Responsible to: Unit Coordinator/Clinical Manager/Registered Nurse
Nature of supervision received: Direct
Positions directly supervised: Nursing Assistants
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides direct patient care.
- Administers medications including PO, IM and IV PB in a safe and timely manner. Accurately documents administration of medications.
- Responsible for safe-guarding medications and narcotics.
- Starts and assists with the maintenance of IV's.
- Accurate documentation of care.
- Assists with patient education, in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Assists with unit cleanliness.
- Assists with admission assessments and discharge assessments.
- Respects patient privacy, rights and respects values of individual patients and provides care accordingly.
- Takes responsibility as assigned for providing care for a given group of patients according to the care plan provided by the registered nurse.
- Reports observations and pertinent information to registered nurse.
- Works closely and harmoniously with registered nurse.
- Assists in orienting new employees.
- Administers nursing care in a safe and timely manner according to hospital policies, procedures and philosophy.
- Completes all annual competencies.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned.
- Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.
- Must be able to cross-train to other units.
- Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
- Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration. Attends unit meetings.
- Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
Qualifications:
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
Education and Formal Training:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, and eligible to be licensed in the state of West Virginia. BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
Work Experience:
On the job orientation program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Must demonstrate the ability to effectively recognize the unique needs of patients of all ages including neonates, pediatrics, adolescence and geriatrics. Must demonstrate the ability to perform effectively on the unit, while coping with highly stressful situations and set priorities for multiple tasks.

Physical Requirements:
Visual, auditory, and olfactory senses necessary to detect changes in patients' conditions. Finger and hand dexterity are important in handling and manipulation of instruments and equipment. Must walk to and from various areas in the nursing units and different hospital departments. Must be able to perform tasks, while using proper body mechanics with the ability to lift, move and transfer patients.
