Job description

Location: Borden Mine, Chapleau, Ontario, Canada
Rotation: 7 on 7 off 
Salary Range: $85,000 - $135,000/annum, range is variable and dependent on overtime worked and production bonus paid
Shift Length: 10 hours
Allowance: Based on location
Benefits: Health Care, Dental and Vision, Life Insurance, Pension Plan, Employee Assistance Program
Pre-employment requirement: Drug and Alcohol testing
Rotation: If local 5 days on 2 days off 
Duration of Contract:  3 years

Job Summary:

The Project Controller is responsible for the planning and performance monitoring of assigned projects, including providing guidance to operational managers through the implementation of project controls processes, procedures and contracts. The incumbent will track performance daily, weekly and monthly, and incorporate quantitative and qualitative analysis, to define both the physical and the economic performance of the projects and recommend action to be taken should deviations from the optimal performance be highlighted.
The incumbent will work to ensure that the business objectives of the Company are consistently achieved. The Project Controller must assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of the project baseline and project execution plan, inclusive of setting up the project administrative aspects.
 

Required:       University degree in a related scientific, business or engineering field 
Preferred:       University degree (business or engineering) in quantity surveying, cost estimating or mining. Additional qualifications and/or certification(s) in                        project management, contract administration and key performance indicator measurement will be considered an asset

Work Experience: 

Required:  
3 Years of post-graduate field and/or office based project accounting, estimating or controls experience related to underground construction projects or operational mining environment, with knowledge of project management, construction contracts, reporting and data manipulation
Preferred:
5 Years of post-graduate project accounting, estimating or project controls experience in mining, shaft sinking, lateral development,  raiseboring, mechanized raise climbing or similar underground construction projects with a sound knowledge of contract principles, KPI reporting and data manipulation into management information.

Knowledge Required 

  • Good understanding of general business interfaces and/or processes as they related to human resources, procurement, engineering, construction operations, accounting and administration departments 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to facilitate team commitment 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (internally and externally) and demonstrated ability to work with Redpath management and clients 
  • Lead project controls and related project services on assigned projects 
  • Good conceptual skills in understanding relationships between projects, the overall organization and its environment, and how change in one part of the project affects the whole 
  • Comprehensive computer skills including Microsoft Office, scheduling Software (MS Projects or Primavera) and measurement and estimating software 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively 
  • Ensure that all functions are carried out in compliance with Company and national health, safety and environmental guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation
  • Compile and define the controls baselines for projects, including the development of project execution plans and project
  • Ensure that the Management of Change process is being maintained and integrated with Redpath's policies, procedures, contracts and financial system
  • Participate in compiling, updating and tracking project costs and schedules (Hard Dollar, Primavera and/or MS Projects, SharePoint and JD Edwards);
  •  Implement proper controls to monitor project budget performance, reallocation of costs and to ensure that monthly costs, cash and resource requirements are forecasted to project completion
  • Implement and maintain earned value management on assigned projects
  • Report in a timely manner on project key performance indicators (internally and externally) by compiling daily, weekly and monthly project reports as directed
  •  Monitor and support the proper use and implementation of the code of accounts on projects
  •  Attend meetings, including compiling and circulating proper project meeting minutes
  •  Monitor trends obtained from site statistics and advise management of issues potentially impacting on policies, procedures, schedule, costs, project scope, risks and/or safety related issues
  •  Prepare and finalize the closeout reports, including maintaining historical cost and production information in a format as prescribed
  •  Maintain professional working relationships with management and client representatives
  •  Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information
