Job description

Dewberry is currently seeking a  Structural (Bridge) Engineer for its New York, NY office.  The successful candidate will design simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel, concrete, and precast/pre-stress construction) and a variety of transportation-related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures) using applicable software for public clients including NYSDOT, NYCDOT and MTA.  The bridge design work encompasses new and replacement bridges, bridge widening, and bridge rehabilitation.  Individuals will perform analysis on all design phases, structural modeling, structural calculation, and plan production. The candidate must be able to successfully work independently as well as work with and/or lead a team of structural engineers and drafters, as well as coordinate with other project disciplines, working closely with clients to meet their objectives.

  • Responsible for specific phases of structural project development, including inspection, analysis, design, development of contract plans, cost estimates, and technical specifications and reports. 
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates with entry-level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff.
  • Assists in determining schedule and budget requirements.
  • Coordinate with contractor on design build contracts.

  • BS in Civil Engineering (MS in Structural Engineering preferred.)
  • NY PE license, or ability to receive a NY PE within one year.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on bridge transportation projects; sound oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational skills; familiarity with CADD (MicroStation or AutoCAD); and a desire to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with NYSDOT and NYCDOT design standards and current state of practice such as accelerated bridge construction and prefabricated bridge elements are preferred.
  • Design-Build experience desirable.
  • A clean driving record is required.
