Job description

About Limina

Limina is the contextual data intelligence platform built for the AI era. Evolved from Private AI, the world's most accurate PII and PHI de-identification engine, Limina has expanded into a full platform play that governs sensitive data across the entire enterprise AI lifecycle: from classification and redaction through to agentic workflows, RAG pipelines, and real-time data security.

Brands like RBC, Deepgram, and Boehringer Ingelheim already rely on our platform to build on, govern, and deploy AI against their most sensitive datasets. We've been recognized as a Gartner Cool Vendor in Privacy and a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, and we're backed by investors in Toronto, New York, Seattle, and San Francisco.

What is the opportunity

As a Junior Software Developer at Limina, you'll join our engineering team building and maintaining the services that power our data privacy platform. This is a hands-on role where you'll work across a modern backend architecture, contributing to the systems our customers and internal teams depend on every day.

You'll be supported by an experienced team of backend engineers, and this role is designed to help you grow quickly. You'll get real ownership over features and fixes from day one, with plenty of guidance along the way.

What does the day to day look like?

Our platform is built from independently deployable services, including a web API layer and a configurable background processing system, along with shared code for data models, caching, and job handling. As a junior developer, you'll get exposure to the full lifecycle of a production service, from API design to background job orchestration to database changes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining API endpoints and the business logic behind them
  • Contributing to asynchronous and background processing solutions that help our systems scale
  • Participating in database design and management, including schema changes over time
  • Writing and maintaining tests across unit, integration, and performance levels
  • Supporting analytics and observability efforts so we can understand how our systems behave in production
  • Participating in our CI/CD workflows, from code review through deployment
  • Contributing to user facing documentation and guides as you learn the system, so the next person ramps up faster than you did
  • Working with senior engineers on authorization design and other architectural decisions
  • Collaborating with other teams across the company to help design solutions based on customer requests and feedback

Required skills

  • Solid foundation in Python
  • Understanding of REST API concepts and basic backend architecture
  • Familiarity with relational databases (SQL, schema design)
  • Some exposure to Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Comfortable reading and learning from an existing codebase and documentation
  • Strong problem solving instincts and a willingness to ask questions

Nice to have

  • Exposure to a Python web framework (such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django)
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized development environments
  • Some experience with background job or queue systems
  • Familiarity with caching or session stores such as Redis
  • Exposure to an ORM or database migration tools
  • Understanding of authentication, authorization, or access control systems
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira
