Role Purpose

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented IT Intern to support the Apptio team in managing IT cost transparency, internal technology usage analysis, reporting, and service-related data management. This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate interested in gaining hands-on experience in Technology Business Management (TBM), IT financial analysis, digital reporting, and cross-functional collaboration.

The intern will work closely with IT teams, finance stakeholders, and service owners to help collect, organize, validate, and analyze data related to IT services, internal usage, and cost allocation. An interest in exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can improve reporting, forecasting, data quality, trend analysis, and automation is highly valued.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and validating IT cost, service, and usage data for Apptio reporting and analysis.
  • Support the Apptio team in maintaining accurate records of IT services, applications, infrastructure, and internal consumption data.
  • Help prepare dashboards, reports, presentations, and summaries related to IT spending, allocation, and service utilization.
  • Collaborate with IT support, infrastructure, application, and business teams to gather and confirm data required for reporting and analysis.
  • Assist in documenting service structures, cost components, allocation methodologies, and reporting processes.
  • Support analysis of internal IT usage trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for optimization and transparency.
  • Participate in meetings with stakeholders to document requirements, follow up on action items, and support reporting needs.
  • Help identify data inconsistencies, reporting gaps, and process improvement opportunities related to Apptio and IT financial management.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, and better data governance, including the potential use of AI-based tools for reporting, automation, forecasting, and knowledge management.
  • Assist in coordinating recurring reporting activities, data refresh cycles, and internal communication related to Apptio deliverables.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support for Apptio and IT business management initiatives as needed.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Business Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in IT financial management, reporting, data analysis, digital transformation, or technology operations.
  • Good organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Basic understanding of IT environments, applications, infrastructure, cloud services, or support processes is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with reporting, dashboard, or data tools such as Power BI, Excel modeling, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

Skills/Experience desired

  • Familiarity with Apptio, TBM, budgeting, forecasting, or cost allocation concepts is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of data management and reporting concepts.
  • Experience with spreadsheets, charts, and presentation materials.
  • Understanding of IT concepts such as applications, infrastructure, cloud services, IT support, service management, or enterprise systems.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain accurate records.
  • Problem-solving mindset with an interest in operational efficiency, cost transparency, and technology enablement.
  • Professional attitude, adaptability, and teamwork.
