Job Summary

The Musolino Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, is seeking highly motivated post-doctoral Research Fellow candidates. At the Musolino laboratory we are dedicated to the development and application of innovations in gene therapy technologies for rare vascular conditions. The candidate will be expected to have experience, or high capacity to learn, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, murine modeling, and various molecular genetic techniques. The team will include the Principal Investigators and other faculty, research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and research technicians and technologists. In this position we are seeking a Research Fellow with the enthusiasm to develop projects that will contribute to diverse and highly collaborative research programs.
The new hire will be appointed as a Research Fellow at the Massachusetts General Hospital and at the Harvard Medical School.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform CRISPR-based genome editing using established protocols
Perform molecular genomics procedures as needed (i.e., DNA/RNA extraction, library production, RNAseq, sample archiving, tissue culture, etc.)
Design, execute, and interpret research experiments
Learn any number of molecular genomics techniques including single-cell RNAseq (scRNAseq), ATACseq, ChIPseq, HiC, and other methods
Routinely check medium, reagents, and plasticwares for cell culture experiments
Maintain mouse colonies and process murine tissues for phenotypic evaluation
Perform noninvasive and invasive hemodynamic assessments of mouse models of human disease
Maintain laboratory notebook
Independently follow detailed protocols while working closely with a wide range of lab members (i.e., graduate students, postdocs, technicians, staff scientists)
Assist in training new Research Technicians and Fellows
Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques.
Investigate, create, and develop new methods and technologies for research advancements.
Preparation of written data reports, including methodology, figure preparations, written description of the study in the form of manuscripts and/or progress reports.
Contribute to research presentations at local, national, and international meetings.
Oversight of laboratory technicians participating on the projects, including training them, and assisting them with experimental design and implementation.
Compose and present sections of research reports.
Organize and/or draft material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, or other documents for publication and/or presentation.
The Research Fellow will be situated in the MGH under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Patricia Musolino.


Qualifications

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The ideal candidate should have received (or expect to receive soon) a Ph.D. in a relevant biological field.

  • First (or co-first) author of one or more peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and in a team
  • Experience with delivery of genomic therapies such as LNPs and/or genome editing- required.
  • Experience in molecular genomic techniques (i.e., PCR, qPCR, RNAseq, gel electrophoresis)
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture- required
  • Interest in learning and troubleshooting new molecular biology techniques
  • Familiarity with animal modeling of disease - required
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise and train staff effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, set deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in response to changing deadlines and needs of the lab.
  • Ability to function with speed, precision, and an understanding of theory behind protocols and experiments.

Minimum Required: Doctoral Degree

Preferred: Doctoral Degree

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Recent PhD graduate, 3+ years of experience in a research-related field required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (authority to hire, promote, or terminate):

May oversee research Assistants, Technicians, Technologists, and Students.

No authority to hire/promote/terminate

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work will be performed in the Simches Research Building on the Massachusetts General Hospital main campus, in Boston, MA.

The salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $71,750.
