Job description

Dewberryis seeking a Senior Structural (Bridge) Engineer inany of our Viriginia offices to growand strengthen our transportation design practice.The team player we seek must have a BS degree in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis on Structural Engineering) and 10+ years of experience delivering structural and bridge projects for VDOT, MSHA, and/or other state and local agencies. Understanding of the current state of practice for design-build projects preferred. The successful candidate will design simple and complex bridges (primarily of steel and concrete construction) and a variety of transportation related structures (retaining walls, culverts, sign structures and other ancillary structures). Bridge design work encompasses new and replacement bridges, bridge widening, and bridge rehabilitation. The candidate will be responsible for and complete all phases of structural project development including planning, scheduling, inspection, analysis, design, development of contract plans, cost estimates, and technical specifications and reports. Successfully leading a team of structural engineers as well as coordinating with other project disciplines and clients will be required to complete assignments. The ability to interact well with clients, contractors, client management teams, engineers in other technical disciplines, and the marketing team is essential.

  • Manages the structural elements on design and design-build projects.
  • Assigns tasks to engineers and provide technical assistance/guidance.
  • Mentors, coaches, and directs staff engineers.
  • Perform structural analysis and develop structures designs, construction plans, cost estimates, reports and technical specifications.
  • Assist with the preparation of project schedules and budgets.
  • Perform QC reviews of design documentation and plans prepared by staff engineers and other consultants.
  • Coordinates with clients, subconsultants, and design-build contractors.

  • BS in Civil Engineering (MS with emphasis in Structural Engineering preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience working on bridge transportation projects.
  • VA PE license or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Design-Build experience is a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong desire to be a key contributor in an outstanding team of industry-leading professionals.
