Job Summary
The College of Health Science and Public Health (CHSPH) at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for a tenure-track Associate or Full Professor of Public Health in the Department of Public Health and Health Services Administration (PHHA)to begin September 16, 2026.
Eastern is a regional, comprehensive university where all faculty are expected to demonstrate teaching excellence, professional growth, and service to the university, profession, and the community. The primary teaching area for this position will be public health in the graduate program. An ongoing research program and service to the university, college, and department are also required for tenure-track appointments. Responsibilities in this position include teaching and supervising student internships in community-based organizations.
The candidate selected for this position will be expected to engage in online learning, pursuit of grants, program assessment, and will be involved in facilitation of accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
The Department of Public Health and Health Administration (PHHA) has programs that are housed in Eastern's residential campus in Cheney, WA and in the Catalyst Building located in the University District in downtown Spokane, WA. The department offers three fully online accelerated-format graduate degrees and certificates, a Master of Public Health (MPH), a Graduate Certificate in Public Health, and a Graduate Certificate in Health Services Administration. The department also offers hybrid undergraduate programs that includes in the B.S. Public Health, B.A. Health Services Administration and a minor in Health Services Management.
The college and department prepare students from all populations and communities to meet the growing market demand in the critical fields of health care and education. The college is home to several nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with an increased focus on inter-professional education (IPE), and expanding representation in the healthcare fields. As a premier college serving the educational needs of the health care practitioners, CHSPH includes nursing, dental hygiene, occupational therapy, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, public health and health administration, wellness and movement sciences, and the UW-EWU Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE).
The expected salary upon hire is $93,660 (Associate Professor) and $123,023 (Full Professor). Required Qualifications
Candidates must demonstrate qualifications consistent with CEPH faculty standards, including appropriate academic preparation, teaching competence, and scholarly engagement in public health including:
  • An earned doctoral degree in Public Health (PhD, DrPH, ScD, or equivalent) or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience as a core faculty member in a Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited Master of Public Health program at a 4-year university or college
  • A record of academic achievement sufficient to merit appointment at the rank of Associate Professor, including evidence of successful performance in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Experience in academic program administration or other leadership roles
  • Experience participating in the CEPH reaccreditation
  • Demonstrated engagement in discipline-specific professional organizations at the state and national/international levels
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate and undergraduate public health courses, with evidence of instructional effectiveness and student advising/mentoring
  • Ability to teach core public health competencies aligned with CEPH standards, such as epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, social and behavioral health, health policy, or public health practice
  • An established and sustained record of peer-reviewed scholarship (publications, national presentations, external grants funding) appropriate to public health and consistent with expectations for appointment at the associate professor level
  • Demonstrated engagement in public health research, applied scholarship, or professional public health practice
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public

Additional Required Qualifications - Full Professor
  • Ten (10) years of experience as a core faculty member in a CEPH accredited MPH program
  • National and/or international reputation for excellence in scholarship, research, or practice appropriate to the discipline of public health
  • Sustained record of peer-reviewed publications, scholarly products, or equivalent professional contributions demonstrating impact and leadership in the field
  • Evidence of external funding success (e.g., federal, state, foundation, or major applied research or practice grants), as appropriate to the institution's mission
  • Record of mentoring junior faculty and graduate students, including supervision of theses or applied practice experiences
  • Evidence of leadership in curriculum development, program assessment, or pedagogical innovation
  • Significant record of service and leadership at the department, college, university, and/or professional level
  • Demonstrated engagement with professional associations, editorial boards, accreditation activities, advisory panels, or policy/practice organizations relevant to public health
  • Experience contributing to shared governance and advancing institutional priorities
