At USC Upstate, we strive to provide an individualized and broad graduate assistantship experience. The overall goal of the graduate assistantship program is to gain knowledge and experience through opportunities so that upon graduation, an individual is ready to move into a full-time position within the field of collegiate athletics administration.
Job Duties
The Graduate Assistant for Athletic Compliance is a 20 hour per week graduate assistantship in the Department of Athletics. This position provides comprehensive athletic compliance support to coaches, staff, and student-athletes, while gaining experience throughout all facets of the compliance office. This position reports directly to the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.
Specific Duties will include:
Coordinate tracking and evaluation of potential transfer student-athletes for amateurism and initial eligibility purposes
Work closely with the F.A.R. and Athletic Academic Advising Office regarding eligibility issues, especially in association with transfer monitoring
Assist with general departmental paperwork and processes necessary to facilitate organized operations of the compliance department
Assist with monitoring recruiting logs
Assist with monitoring playing and practice season logs
Prepare and educate staff and student-athletes on previously approved topics to enhance the knowledge base of all departmental constituents
Assist with roster management facilitation
Assist the athletic department with general support of compliance related tasks associated with the operations of events
Coordinate undergraduate internships in compliance with the Associate Athletic Director
Work with various departmental staff members in order to facilitate proper departmental communication of compliance related initiatives
It is expected that this position will require 20 hours per week, including some work on nights and weekends
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all NCAA, Big South Conference and USC Upstate rules and regulations
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance

Bachelor's degree
Acceptance into the Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at the University of South Carolina, Columbia or the Business Analytics Master's program at USC Upstate
Must be accepted as a graduate student to accept the graduate assistant position
Ability to interact effectively with student-athletes, colleagues, coaches and supporters
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Attention to detail
Successful background check
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field of study (marketing, communications, sports management)
Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports franchises
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Prompt and regular attendance
Ability to work schedule as defined (night and weekend hours)
Must be able to adhere to all USC Upstate, Big South Conference and NCAA rules and regulations
Comfort with juggling multiple tasks
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Compensation
Stipend of $1,000 per month for a 10-month academic year, with the possibility of a summer appointment
Out-of-state tuition waiver, if applicable (valued at approximately $12,000 to $16,000 per year depending upon how many hours the candidate attempts)
Candidate is responsible for in-state tuition and related fees, which is approximately $10,300 to $14,000 per year depending upon how many hours the candidate attempt
