Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Kinesiology Program is a strong campus program and is home to all Health, Physical Education, Public Health, and the Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree, which has three concentrations (1) Exercise Science, (2) Fitness and Wellness, and (3) Physical Education and Health. The Kinesiology Program trains evidence-based leaders and practitioners in the sub-fields of Kinesiology according to ACSM and NSCA standards, preparing students to meet the needs of individuals who are healthy, at risk, or who have known disease(s). The Kinesiology degree competitively prepares students to pursue advanced graduate degrees in disciplines such as athletic training, physical therapy, public health, occupational therapy, fitness and wellness, and allied health professions.
Description of Work
The Department houses the Kinesiology Program and seeks to hire a faculty with expertise in Exercise Science with an emphasis on Health and Wellness Promotion.
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position
The successful candidate will be expected to establish externally funded research program utilizing existing laboratories and resources at the University to contribute to research, teaching, advising, and community service needs of the Department and University.
Teaching undergraduate courses related to exercise science, athletic training, and Health and wellness promotion (e.g., introduction to exercise science, prevention, and care of athletic injuries, applied strength and conditioning, wellness programming and administration, health coaching).
Minimum Training and Experience
Doctoral degree in Kinesiology, Health and Wellness Promotion or related disciplines. Track record of scholarly activity commensurate with appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank by the anticipated date of appointment (ABD's will be considered). Demonstrable evidence of preparedness to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the discipline and establish an independent research program
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Licenses and certifications that align with areas of professional expertise and interest are required.
