Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the COE Eagle Academy as a Peer Mentor on the Swainsboro Campus beginning Fall 2026.
The CHOICE Program is a postsecondary education program for young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disability. The CHOICE Program offers students a combination of University courses, specialized CHOICE courses focused on life and college success skills, and a variety of internships and work experiences. The CHOICE Program Peer Mentors are integral to the ongoing function and support of the program and student success.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities
  • Attends a course with an CHOICE Program student(s) as scheduled
  • Works in a supportive/coaching role within the class and afterward during study time
  • Works with the CHOICE Program student(s) on time management skills, academic coursework, and social supports
  • Reports to CHOICE Program staff on time spent with CHOICE Program students

Shift Specifics
  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability
  • Shifts are available both virtually and in person, based on CHOICE Program student schedules

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience coaching or tutoring
  • Experience with education studies
  • Familiarity with Google Meet, Good Drive, Zoom, and Folio

Preferred Education
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with background in education, disability studies

Proposed Salary
$13.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
