Assistant Athletic Coach - Job Description
Reports to: Athletic Director/Head Coach
General Duties & Responsibilities:
All coaches should be familiar with the rules of the Iowa High School Athletic Association and/or the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union as well as the policies of the Boone Community School District.
  • Assist the head coach in planning, organizing, and executing practices and training sessions.
  • Provide individual and team instruction to improve players' skills, technique, and understanding of the game.
  • All coaching activities are to be organized and supervised by the coaches, to ensure student safety. Be aware of unsafe equipment and/or facilities and report such to the Activities Director immediately.
  • Coaches are to be at all practice sessions, games, and contests on time and are to be dressed appropriately.
  • Support game day operations, including setting up equipment, managing substitutions, and providing in-game coaching.
  • Adhere to school policies, rules, and regulations as well as league and state athletic association guidelines.
  • Serve as a role model for student-athletes in behavior, attitude, and sportsmanship.
  • Cooperation is an essential part of the Boone High School athletic program. Coaches should cooperate with coaches of other sports and support each other in an ethical manner.
  • All coaches are responsible to motivate individual athletes and to promote team morale and spirit. Highly motivated athletes and teams are the most successful. Coaches at BCSD are expected to use positive motivation techniques.
  • Coaches are held responsible for the conduct of their participants during practice, at games and on trips. Coaches are to demand their participants conduct themselves as ladies or gentlemen at all times.

Qualifications:
  • Must have current Coaching Endorsement or Authorization and completed CPR training and Concussion course (school provided). Previous coaching experience or strong knowledge of basketball (experience working with high school athletes is a plus).
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach skills and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, positivity, and the ability to work well with teenagers.
  • Understanding of and commitment to upholding safety standards in a sports environment.
  • Ability to pass a background check, in accordance with school policy.
