The Boston Fed is one of 12 Reserve Banks and we serve all or parts of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The position will be primarily on-site. The individual is expected to reside in the First District.

This position is part of the Bank's Internship/ Co-op Program which is offered to students who are currently enrolled in graduate and undergraduate studies. This program identifies talented and qualified candidates who could potentially fill professional job openings in the Bank.

Position Title: Graduate Intern - Statistical Analysis

Duration: September 2026 - May 2027

Department: Regional & Community Outreach

Location: Federal Reserve Bank of Boston

Position Overview: Federal Reserve Bank of Boston's Regional & Community Outreach department is seeking a motivated intern to support its data analysis project. This internship offers hands-on experience in community development research and data analysis that advances our work in financial inclusion in LMI communities. This internship is intended to assist with an ongoing data analysis project.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to develop and evaluate options for enhancing existing data analysis and visualization
  • Conduct literature reviews on relevant methodologies, data sources, and analytical approaches applicable to the project
  • Assist with data collection, cleaning, and management from multiple publicly available surveys and datasets
  • Support the development and implementation of quantitative models including statistical estimation techniques, forecasting models, and clustering
  • Perform geospatial analysis to identify regional patterns and trends
  • Create data visualizations and contribute to interactive dashboards

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in economics, public policy, statistics, data science, or related field
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with coursework in statistics and data analysis
  • Proficiency in at least one statistical software package (R, Python, or similar)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau)
  • Experience with data manipulation, cleaning, and analysis of large datasets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment

Preferred

  • Familiarity with survey data analysis and sampling techniques
  • Experience with census data or publicly available economic datasets
  • Experience with geospatial analysis tools (ArcGIS or similar)
  • Background in machine learning or predictive modeling
  • Interest in community development and financial inclusion

Compensation: $18-$36 per hour. Actual pay within the range will be set based on undergraduate/graduate year and relevant experience.
