Job description

Vermont State University is seeking qualified candidates for Graduate Assistant Coach positions in Athletics. Graduate Assistant Coaches play an important role in supporting the success, development, and experience of our student athletes both on and off the field.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting with the coordination and supervision of practices and contests;
  • Supporting recruitment activities for prospective student athletes;
  • Coordinating team travel and meals;
  • Assisting with eligibility procedures and compliance requirements;
  • Supporting athletic communications and sports information functions;
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Graduate Assistant Coaches will report directly to the Head Coach of the assigned sport.
Graduate Assistant Coach appointments are typically structured as two one-year appointments, contingent upon satisfactory academic progress, job performance, program needs, and approval by the University. Graduate Assistant coach positions include tuition remission for up to 18 graduate credits; on-campus housing and a $5,000 stipend.
Under current IRS regulations, graduate tuition benefits exceeding the annual non-taxable threshold of $5,250 will be treated as taxable income and subject to applicable withholding taxes. Any resulting tax liability is the responsibility of the graduate assistant.
Graduate Assistants are expected to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and as representatives of Vermont State University, are expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and good sportsmanship, while fostering those same expectations among student athletes. Adherence to all NCAA, conference, and university regulations is required. Appointment to a Graduate Assistant Coach position may be terminated in cases involving deliberate or serious violations of NCAA regulations or university policies.
