Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Laboratory Specialist (Tischfield Lab) for the DLS Center for Collaborative Neuroscience. This position will fulfill needs related to the design and execution of laboratory animal behavioral experiments, including data curation and analysis.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Designs and executes laboratory animal behavioral experiments, including animal preparation/handling.
  • Performs data curation and analysis, including designing and running coding scripts.
  • Assists with mouse colony management.
  • Trains and/or assists junior personnel, as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, neuroscience, animal science or a related scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior experience with mouse handling and behavior.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with rodent stereotactic surgery, virus injection, fiber placement and/or cannulation, and operant conditioning.
  • Previous experience with animal models of neurodevelopmental/psychiatric disorders (with evidence of publication in one or more reputable journals).
