Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct survey crew in the proper layout for construction of roads, pipe work, mass graded earthworks. 
  • Engage in communication with other foremen, job superintendents, and project management and report any issues that may affect the project. 
  • Have an advanced understanding of construction layout and the use of the industry standard equipment (GPS base and Rover Units and Robotic Total stations). 
  • Be responsible for the status and location of your assigned equipment. 
  • Lead the crew in the grading of mass earthwork through staking. 
  • Lead the crew in layout of the project utilities. 
  • Set grade in the streets using bluetops from subgrade to finish grade; this can include the use of lime and Portland cement. 
  • Observe grades, identify and correct issues, and report them. 
  • Running of level loops and setting benchmarks to industry standards. 
  • Read and interpret project plans. 
  • Use time, material, and survey equipment efficiently 
  • Plan work in an effective and efficient manner to maximize progress in a safe and timely manner. 
  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program and encourage all employees and subcontractors to adopt safety as a culture. 
  • Perform and review safe work plans/hazard assessments with the crew prior to starting work. 
  • Work with the safety department to investigate damage, incidents, or near misses in the work site and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the company’s safety program. 
  • Work in a safe responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or the endanger the wellbeing of others. 
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas. 
  • Participate as vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support as required. 
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives. 

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED preferred 

    • Class C driver’s License 
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in infrastructure construction 
    • Minimum 2 years as a Foreman or Party Chief with construction layout experience 
    • Wide knowledge of survey industry standards and practices
