This role supports civil engineering work related to site development, access roads, grading, and drainage design for large-scale energy infrastructure projects, including substations and transmission facilities.

Working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team-including civil, structural, geotechnical, and construction professionals-the Designer leads design production efforts, mentors junior staff, and contributes to the development of civil design solutions, construction drawings, and specifications. This role focuses on advanced civil design tasks such as site layout, grading design, stormwater analysis support, and survey coordination. The Designer applies advanced engineering and drafting principles under the guidance of a Professional Engineer and exercises strong engineering judgment to solve complex problems.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the preparation and revision of complex civil engineering drawings based on engineer and planner input
  • Oversee and process survey data into accurate base maps and surface models
  • Develop and refine site layout, grading, and drainage designs with minimal supervision
  • Support and perform stormwater design efforts and drainage calculations
  • Create and review vicinity maps, access plans, and detailed civil sheets
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D (or similar) to create, manage, and modify design models and drawings
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and drafters
  • Coordinate with survey, engineering, and construction teams to ensure design accuracy and constructability
  • Support permitting efforts, including preparation of civil plan sets and responses to agency comments
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and contribute to cost estimates
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure compliance with company standards and client requirements
  • Conduct field visits and support civil construction inspections as needed
  • Identify design risks and propose practical, cost-effective solutions
  • Manage multiple tasks and priorities across projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Work a regular 40-hour workweek, with overtime as required
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
What You'll Bring
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in civil drafting and design, with significant experience in site development, grading, and drainage projects
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar civil design software
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles, including grading, drainage, and site development
  • Ability to read, interpret, and QA/QC civil drawings, utility maps, and survey data
  • Basic knowledge of the major components of transmission lines
  • Basic oral and written communications
  • Working in a team environment
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and determine priorities in a complex environment.
What You'll Get
