Job description

Civil Project Engineer – Design & Project Oversight

We are seeking an experienced Civil Project Engineer to join our team and oversee the design and engineering efforts for a variety of residential, commercial, and land development projects. This position will serve as a key technical and project-design resource, overseeing Design Engineers and ensuring that projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable municipal, county, state, and regulatory requirements.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for reviewing and directing the civil design portion of each project, helping guide projects through the design process from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the work of Design Engineers and junior engineering staff.
  • Review engineering plans, calculations, reports, and technical documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide direction and guidance to Design Engineers throughout the design process.
  • Manage the civil engineering portion of projects from initial concept through final approvals and construction.
  • Oversee plan updates and revisions to address technical and agency comments.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, architects, surveyors, contractors, and outside consultants as needed to resolve technical design issues.
  • Review site layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, roadway design, and other civil engineering components.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable NJDEP, municipal, county, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential design and permitting issues early and develop practical solutions.
  • Maintain quality control and consistency across project designs and deliverables.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or strong progress toward obtaining a PE.
  • Experience with New Jersey land development and site engineering.
  • Strong understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and site design.
  • Experience reviewing and managing the work of other engineers.
  • Strong AutoCAD/Civil 3D skills preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality engineering work.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineer who is ready to take the next step into a project leadership role, overseeing design staff while remaining actively involved in the technical aspects of projects.
