Landscape Construction Estimator

Lead Accurate Bids for Landscape Construction, Sitework, and Civil Projects

Company: Curti Group

Location: Valley Cottage, NY

Job Type: Full-Time, Salaried

Salary: $85,000–$105,000+ per year

Work Environment: Approximately 80% Office-Based and 20% Local Field Work

Project Scope: Commercial and High-End Residential Landscape Construction, Hardscape, Sitework, Utilities, Drainage, and Civil Improvements

The Opportunity

Curti Group is seeking an experienced Landscape Construction Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive, and executable bids for commercial and high-end residential projects.

This position is primarily focused on estimating. It is not intended to be a combined estimator and project manager role. Your primary responsibility will be reviewing plans, completing quantity takeoffs, obtaining pricing, developing detailed estimates, and producing proposals that support a strong and profitable project backlog.

Projects typically range from approximately $20,000 to $1.5 million and may include landscape construction, hardscape, grading, drainage, utilities, retaining walls, planting, irrigation, municipal work, school projects, and other site improvements.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Review construction drawings, landscape plans, engineering documents, specifications, and bid packages.
  • Complete detailed digital and manual quantity takeoffs.
  • Develop accurate estimates for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project overhead.
  • Estimate hardscape, grading, drainage, irrigation, planting, utilities, retaining walls, and civil site improvements.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Identify missing scope, drawing conflicts, site constraints, and potential cost exposure.
  • Develop value-engineering options that improve constructability or reduce cost without compromising quality.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, measurements, and walkthroughs.
  • Prepare estimates for commercial, high-end residential, municipal, school-district, and public-bid projects.
  • Account for prevailing-wage requirements when applicable.
  • Produce clear proposals and bid packages in accordance with deadlines.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical costs, unit pricing, and bid-performance information.
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams during project handoffs.
  • Compare estimate assumptions with actual job-cost information to improve future accuracy.
  • Assist with snow-related planning or operations when business needs require all-hands support.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience estimating landscape construction, sitework, civil construction, or related projects.
  • Demonstrated experience producing estimates from plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Strong knowledge of construction labor, materials, equipment, production rates, and subcontractor pricing.
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape plans, civil drawings, engineering documents, utility plans, elevations, and project specifications.
  • Experience estimating commercial or high-end residential projects.
  • Strong understanding of hardscape, grading, drainage, planting, irrigation, utilities, retaining walls, and related site improvements.
  • Experience soliciting, reviewing, and leveling vendor and subcontractor proposals.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally for site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Aspire or a similar landscape operations and estimating platform.
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, Agtek, Land F/X, AutoCAD, or similar takeoff software.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience estimating public, municipal, school-district, or prevailing-wage projects.
  • Experience with civil site development, stormwater management, athletic fields, or utility work.
  • Familiarity with historical job-cost analysis and estimating-performance metrics.
  • High school diploma, GED, or additional education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.

Work Environment and Travel

  • This position is primarily based in the Curti Group office in Valley Cottage, New York.
  • The anticipated work split is approximately 80% office-based estimating and 20% local field activity.
  • Local travel may include site visits, measurements, pre-bid walkthroughs, and project handoffs.
  • Overnight travel is rare and generally limited to unusual projects for existing clients.
  • This is a year-round position.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive salary of $85,000–$105,000+ per year, based on experience.
  • Performance-based annual bonus opportunities.
  • Weekly pay.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Health Savings Account options.
  • Life and disability coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching.
  • Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
  • Paid parental leave options.
  • Company-provided technology.
  • Professional-development and technical-training opportunities.
